Pikes Peak International Hill Climb?
Pikes Peak International Hill Climb?
Anybody going to watch the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday (6/26/11)? I'm interested in sharing a ride with someone from Denver or Colo. Spgs. to view the race. I've never seen this race in person so I'm open to suggestions on spectator locations. Also, I'd rather take my truck up the mountain than the MINI this time. It has plenty of room for chairs, coolers, etc. PM me with your phone number if you want to discuss the particulars. Fan Fest on Friday sounds fun too.

Still trying to decide where to spectate from. Going with Chris C. and his friend. We're also going to Fan Fest on Friday in C. Springs. We're taking an AM radio to hear live results, info, etc.

I'll be there for this, but not the Climb.
First timers keep in mind that once you are on the Hill you can't leave untill ALL the racers come down! They park the "drivers" on top till it's over. So it will be a long fun day, bring lots of water, sun screen, winter gear, umbrela, hats, food, chairs, AM radio and maybe the kitchen sink. Of course things may have changed since last time I was there.
If you are planning on "camping" on the Hill, forget about sleeping. Fans tend to party hard all night.

Anyone want to join us at fanfest tomorrow night? Suggested location?
Bryan, what do you suggest as the best spot "on the hill" to see the racers / races? At the start? Glencove? Devil's playground?
Thanks, Chris

Incredible day! Heart-thumping action, like "Monster" Tajima going by us, about 3 ft away, at 104mph..

Racers over the guardrail and down the mountain from 13,000 ft...
Amazing cars like the bad-*** '70 'Cuda and the '52 Cadillac screaming up the mountain loud enough to rattle your fillings...
7,000 fans...gorgeous weather...great road conditions...world records...sub-10 times..thrills, chills and spills...
A tremendously long day, almost a 20hr investment, yes, 20 hours, but in the end well worth it. A once-in-a-lifetime type event that I would do again..
Thanks to my friends Rick (pauhana) & Seth (minimaniac) and all of the racers and fans for a great day, including fanfest Fri night with Bryan (miniconcarne) and the Weaver clan.
A fantastic weekend which also included MINI drives of 300+ miles including Pikes Peak once again...

Take a look at "Monster" Tajima's record breaking run from his onboard, GoPro video. Me, Chris and Seth are on the left, right in front of the green roof building, at about 4:48 on the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VAJaZAV-gQ
Amazing!! Hard to believe the "dirt" section is run with basically slick tires!
My hats off to ALL the drivers and spectators who do this!!
And for those of us who went up the Peak last September truly
appreciate the skill (ginormous huevos) it takes to run this Mountain
at speed!!

I took over 600 pictures and narrowed it down to 75 - I haven't been that trigger happy in a while (unless you count fan fest - those photos will be up soon)http://www.flickr.com/photos/jacquef...7627074407130/
And Tom's photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tomfull...7627063047826/
Even though we knew it was going to be that last year with the dirt portion it didn't really cross our minds to take pictures there
Eh, Devil's Playground was still awesome for a first timer
