Hi,
Sorry I don't need another JB+ as I just got one off the forum a few weeks back and I love it. Big difference over stock. Highly recommend it! I was wondering if you would mind telling me how the manic Stage 1 compares? Are you happy with the upgrade? Most discussions about Manic are Stage 2 and I am not ready for that yet.
Thanks!

So far I love the upgrade.
I should've done the Manic tune first instead of getting the JB+. Was concerned about voiding my warranty when getting work done. With the JB+ all I had to do was take it off before going. I found out the Manic has the ability to switch back to stock, if need be, for those days. In addition to the stock setting, the Manic gives you three maps: A, B and C. You need to get the Manic Revo switch in order to switch between them. It only takes a few seconds to change maps. You turn on the ignition (fuel gauge level lights up). Wait for the ascending musical tone. Plug the switch into your OBD port and let it beep like 3 times (I do like 5 to be safe) and unplug it. You're set to go!
Map A is probably the equivalent to a stock JCW. Didn't like it as much. Felt like it required a bit more effort to get the car moving. Map B is probably the best setting. It accelerates with ease. Push down on the pedal and it pulls hard. The acceleration is very linear and easy to control. Map C I haven't tried yet since I have a lot of things under the hood still stock. From what I've read it's more for track use and requires additional upgrades and higher end fuel.
I do like my JB+. It served its function well with a nice burst of power over stock. It's a nice first upgrade. But what I didn't like was it still had that dead pedal feel that our MINIs are known to have when you first step on the gas. That's why I got the sprint booster to get rid of that. It helped with the dead pedal feel, but I still couldn't get it to accelerate smoothly for those times I hit on the gas, especially on hilly terrain. Felt like short bursts of jarring acceleration. The Manic tune got rid of all of that. Comparing the two, the Manic pulls so much better and is more manageable. I would recommend it when you get the chance.
I would like to get to Stage 2 at some point, but it's difficult with the way emissions are here in California. I need to get a catless downpipe. That won't pass muster when it comes time to get it smogged. I do plan on getting a Wagner intercooler next and possibly a NM intake (CARB, California legal). I already installed a NM cat-back and sounds like a beast!
Hopefully that answered your question.
