FWIW, many eBay advertisers of the Gen1 wind deflector say the Gen 1 wind deflector fits both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Mini cabrios, but not vice versa. Still I suggest anyone thinking of putting my Gen 1 in their Gen 2 check into it thoroughly. At the cost of one of these you don't want to make an error.

Best overall part I have for sale is this wind deflector. I know I'll get 3 more "can I please have it" inquiries right after someone has committed to it.

Again, in perfect condition and the very hard to obtain CHECKER mesh pattern on the screen portion that sits behind the heads of the front seats (not the screen portion that lies flat above the rear seats and no one else can easily see). Don't regret later not getting it.

....and to those who have received their items, I'd appreciate your FEEDBACK ratings. Thanks.

OK, here's what I think anyone looking at this wind screen, or wind deflector, or wind restricter (I've seen all names used) needs to know BEFORE you commit to anything. Here is a non-eBay link to the same one as mine, except it is new and it is all black. The key difference between it and cheaper ones is the carrying case. Notice the price. $469 (plus shipping)!

http://new.minimania.com/part/NMA763...ue-Solid-Black

Now if you don't care about the carrying case and don't care about the checkered pattern vs. black, then go for that new $335 one from the TN dealer on eBay (and Prestige Mini in NJ is also advertising one on eBay for $450 new, so maybe theirs comes with a heavy duty carrying case like mine). I can almost guarantee you that the $335 one has no case (the ad mentions zero about any case at all and am sure if it came with one it would be in the ad).

I suggest anyone looking at that one contact the eBay advertiser and ask if it comes with any case at all. I have also seen a flimsy nylon one that functions to keep dust buildup off it and not much else; I think you can see this flimsy version with some of the screens being sold out of the UK.

My case is like the one in the link here from MiniMania above; it is really a piece of luggage and heavy duty and why my screen is in perfect condition, because I just didn't toss it in the trunk when I wasn't using it. That's how you get rips and tears, and damages to the mesh, or damage a moving part that folds it up neatly. Mine went into the carrying case and then into the trunk and why the only blemishes on my item at all is some really minor trunk grime on the case. That's it. The screen is perfect, except for recent use road dust.

I rechecked the screen due to these sorts of questions on condition vs. new. There are no weaknesses, no rips, no tears, no gouges in the mesh and no damage to the carry case either beyond the admitted MINOR grime. And all the hinges fold as easily as they did when it was brand spanking new.

Buy one off eBay or from a retailer and there is an opportunity to return it. That's true, but you will be out the shipping.

I am so confident in the condition and quality of mine that if you wanted to return it for any reason within 48 hours of receiving it, I'd give you the same offer. That is just cover the shipping back and forth and the PP fees, unless PP refunds them to me directly, and in the same condition it left here (which is exactly the same fine print you get buying it from a dealer - they take it back if you haven't used and damaged it) and you get your money back.

As to visibility, I think that sort of depends on the driver, such as the quality of their eyesight and how tall they are in the driver's seat. Plus everyone is going to react differently to looking through mesh. That is something I cannot predict for a potential buyer. I never had a problem seeing right through it and I owned the car from the age of 53 to 62 and am just a shade over 6 feet tall. I left the screen in place inside my 2006 pretty much all summer, even when the top was not down, but I would then fold back the screen onto the part that spreads across the rear seat, as the screen did block off some of the rear window and with the top up and the added darkness it was not as easily seen through as when the top is down and the daylight aided seeing right through it.

One last issue, which goes for all these screens. They anchor into 4 holes in the rear seat area. If you drive aggressively, you may at times dislodge one of the 4 posts that go into these holes. In 9 years it NEVER fell completely out of even 2 posts on the same side, which would have caused it to drop down into the back seat. There were occasions I'd have to re-implant a post into the hole it popped out of.

So, beyond the visibility and the return policy, there you have a rundown on what you should inquire of anyone selling a screen. Know which pattern, the condition the mesh is in, and the folding hinges, and what carry case comes with it, if any.

Rubber meets road!!

Call it an experiment. As the wind screen/deflector/restricter/blocker is the single most expensive part/accessory I'm selling and as there is some conflicting noise about the alternatives out there, I ran a test. I don't know the results yet, but will post once I do know.

I sent the following in as a question to the TN eBay seller (bmwspecialist) who has an ad selling what appears to be a new screen. It is NOT checkered mesh, but black, but it is advertised as new and in MINI packaging, to authenticate it, I suppose. However, as I've said in an earlier post, there's no mention beyond "packaging" what the screen is being sold with as far as a storage element. Here's what I asked.

Hello, I have a question. Your ad says the product comes in Mini packaging, yet you say nothing about a storage case or bag, if any, that comes with it. So, is packaging a storage case, or just a carton labeled by Mini?

I've seen a few versions of storage cases; one is a flimsy-looking bag and another is a sturdy-looking carrying case, with Velcro and zipper closures and a shoulder harness; there's padding on the reverse of it too, so it is buffeted from being against your body when carried. The storage case I'm interested in is pictured in this ad linked here:

http://new.minimania.com/part/NMA763...ue-Solid-Black

So, does this $335 one that you are selling here exactly the same as the linked one with the heavy duty storage case? Thanks.

Wind screen/deflector/restrictor/blocker is NOW SOLD!! You snooze you lose. Can't wait for feedback on it, given all I said about it. We'll see.
