R58?
That's a great question that unfortunately, I do not know the answer. If you are local (North Atlanta), you are welcome to check the fit.

I am going to say no this will not work as expected. MY R59 is very similar to your R58 in the trunk area and I'm noticing this box solution has a protruding rear portion that will NOT fit flat in the rear of our vehicles.
This weekend I test fitted a JL Audio Microsub
http://www.jlaudio.com/car-audio-sub...stems-microsub
in a 10" and 8" version.
Two possible mounting solutions...
1) vertical - you place the driver facing through the parcel pass-through; some simple brackets to make sure it doesnt move around
2) lay flat in that shallow 14" tall area near the rear most portion of the trunk near the locking mechanism.
wide = width of car
deep = up/down depth
tall = front/back distance
sorry OP for the thread jack.

Good discussion. You're not hijacking the thread.
The bottom does project down as it was designed to fit down into the tool kit recessed part of the trunk. I removed the styrofoam tool kit storage to allow for this.
Hope that helps.

according to JL spec the woofer itself has a mounting depth of ~7"
http://www.jlaudio.com/10w6v2-d4-car...-drivers-92120
eyeballing the picture I'd say the drop where the magnet assembly is housed in the box is about 3.5" deep. the width of the box looks to be ~28" wide
gdclnfn - Perhaps some quick measurements of the box?
I'm pretty sure the beauty plate maybe also require a bit of modification, as the trunk of the R58 / R59 are more rectangular without the wheel tubs.
gdclnfn - did you take out/sell the JL Audio HD900/5 amp ?

I'm more than happy to take the measurements later this evening and post them here. Stay tuned.
I still have the JL Audio HD900/5 and I'm not looking to sell quite yet. The plan was to keep it for a future project, but I have no idea when that will be. I'd be willing to trade it for a MHD900/5 as I've been considering upgrading the stereo in my boat.

Dimensions
The top plate or false floor is 36" x 17"
The actual speaker box/enclosure is:
29.5" x 13.5" x 5" (PLUS the circular magnet enclosure protrudes an additional 3.25" for a total depth of 8.25")
Hope that helps. Let me know of any further questions.

The base stereo in the R57 is not good. I'm surprised there aren't more folks interested in upgrading with this custom sub. The local buyer I thought I had, fell through. It is still available.

The JL Sub and HD900/5 amp have been repurposed but the 10" custom subwoofer box for the R57 is still available for $100.
