Well, to thread hijack our mystery OP, does *anyone* have the touring bike carriers, or has anyone used them, that can explain to me how the lift function really works? Is it a winch or a lever or electric assist or what? I have a 5' tall wife and roof racks have been unusable for her on previous cars due to reach issues. But I'd like to explore if these make getting the bike on top of a car a little easier (and safer, both for her and the cartop)...

You can also try Thule or Yakima bike racks as they should have options to fit the MINI roof bars, or whatever you have mounted.
