I won't be in the Mini parking this year, but from my past experience with Autofair, public ballot voting is used by some of the clubs... but I don't totally agree with it. There was one year I remember, the guy was standing beside his car coaxing people to fill out a ballot and vote for his car. He did have a nice machine, but it was hardly fair decision making. Also, the first car at the end of the row closest to people traffic gets more votes then a car way down on the very end.

The general public also doesn't know the modifications related to Mini Coopers to look for. They may mistake your hard earned work and craftsmanship for a stock option or not see it at all. Mini Cooper owners know Mini Coopers.

I say go with one ballot per car. Each owner gets to place one judged ballot in the box. You can't vote for your own car. Number the ballots and number the cars, so ballot #12 can't vote for car #12 and so on. Orrr.... allow everybody to pick their top 2 or 3 cars with a point system awarded for each selection. First choice selection getting 5 points, 2nd choice selection getting 2 pts, etc... you get the idea.

Thanks guys for the input on the voting.

Our plan is to use the same system that is used for the EuroFest. That plan is pretty much what Steve describes.

Each M2C2 member with a MINI in the show will receive a ballot. The ballot will have 4 spaces on it from first through fourth. You will be allowed to vote for a car only once. This will keep someone from putting their car down 4 times, but yes they could vote for their car once. The car in the first place spot will receive 4 points the car in the second place spot on the ballot will receive 3 points the one in the third place spot will receive 2 points and the one in fourth place spot will receive 1 point.

The MINI with the most points will receive the first place trophy, the MINI with the second highest total will receive second place trophy and so on through third and fourth place.

I agree with Steve it would be very difficult to have people walking by vote. Remember there will be over 100,000 people pass through the Speedway for the AutoFair. I know not all of them would vote, but it would be way too many people to collect votes from.

There will be a Best of Show Award. The way I understand it, our first place car will go up against the first place cars from all of the other clubs.

I hope this system used by the Eurofest car show will work well for us.

Here is a copy of the dress code for eating in the Speedway Club. You may wear golf type shorts. We will be able to change if you need to.

Please, NO t-shirts, tank tops, halter tops, very short shorts, athletic shorts, spandex, or cut-offs. Collared shirts are recommended.

I'm glad you posted this George. You've saved me the embarrassment of showing up in my Halter Top and Daisy Dukes.

Thanks George

George, I am really looking forward to the Auto Fair, thanks for coordinating everything.
I think my wife is getting sick of hearing me talk about it. But it does give a good reason to do some things to the MINI i've been wanting to do.

I know you said you'd be starting a separate post for Dinner, but you can already count myself and Robin in.

thanks,

JJ

Where are people staying Fri. Night.

I'll be Flying back from MT that night and figure it would be better to drive to Charlotte Late that night instead of EARLY Sat. Morning.

Plus, if I'm at the same hotel as others, it will be that much more motivatin to get my butt outta bed.

I hope I'm not too late in reserving for such a large event. I just got my schedule yesterday.

Chris told me he was staying at the

Winngate Inn
7841 Gateway Lane NW
I-85 exit 49 Speedway Blvd
Concord, NC, 28027 US
704-979-1300

It might be full, but there are about 6 hotels right next to the Winngate. If they are full they will help you find one.

Hope that helps.

Jeff, (JWM) wanted me to inform you that he is not able to come, freeing up his spot for someone on the waiting list.

It's a shame too, since his BRG MINI is nicely shined and polished, and he has gotten his door ding fixed using PDR, and they did a spectacular job!

I will still be coming though, both to the car show and the dinner afterwards.

Thanks for the update on Jeff. We will miss him and his MINI at the AutoFair.

I have moved MINI Steve into the top 20.

We need to make sure that we have all 20 spots filled and we are down to no one on the wait list. If you think you can make it please post to be added to the wait list.

If you are on the top 20 list and will not be able to make the AutoFair please let us know.

Thanks
George

We can put Barb's back on the list if needed, now that I've got 5 coats of the slick stuff on it. Not that it needed that much, I just mixed way too much

Ed, bell bottoms are fine, just as long as they are not cut off at your knees.

Elvis eyewear is also fine. Don't worry you are always dressed appropriate.

Update: Metting Time and Place

The plan for meeting to enter the AutoFair on Saturday September 17th has been finalized. We must enter the Speedway together prior to the show starting. I will be giving you numbered passes just before entering the Speedway at the meeting place. I MUST return all unused passes to the AutoFair organizers. I will be unable to give anyone their numbered pass ahead of the Saturday morning meeting. If you will be unable to attend please let me know as soon as possible so that someone else can take your place. For M2C2 to return to the next Autofair, we must follow their rules and fill all 20 spaces. I was told that 3 car clubs were not invited back this time because they did not fill their spaces and or follow the rules at the last AutoFair. As a first time club, we are in a great spot under cover close to restrooms, food and in a position for lots of foot traffic to pass our MINIs on the way in and out of the AutoFair

Here it is. We will need to start meeting around 6:30am and leave at 7:00am for the short 2 miles to the Speedway. I will have your passes at the meeting point. It is extremely important that we meet prior to going to the Speedway to issue passes. Our meeting point is:

Regal Starlight Cinema located at the intersection of Hwy 29 and I485 exit 32 towards Concord. Most of the other car clubs are meeting some where on Speedway Blvd and must go through the light at Speedway Blvd and Route 29, which I want us to avoid.

If you are coming from I85, take the exit to I485 and exit 32 is the first exit you will come to. The Regal Starlight Cinema is easy to see and has a very large parking lot. We have less of a chance of getting separated getting to the Speedway from that location.

I am sorry that the meeting time is so early and there are so many rules we must follow. This event is very large with over 100,000 people attending so all the rules and timing is very important.

If there are any questions please post and I will answer. Thanks for everyone’s cooperation and help in making this another great M2C2 event.

This is a great location to gather, George. Lots of parking space and a direct shot to the track.

For anyone not familiar, as you come off of I485, if you are heading towards I85, bear to the right at the top of the ramp and just stay in the right hand lane. The Starlight is immediately on your right, before you get to the next light.

If you have come off of I85, as George noted this is the very next exit. At the top of the exit ramp, turn left at the light. You will cross over I485 and should move all the way to the right ( a new lane will open up just after you have crossed over I485... the one mentioned above) The Starlight is on your right.

George, thanks once agin for all you've been doing to organize this event for the club. We're going to look GREAT out there!!
