Sadly, I am beginning to think that the "official" event is not going to happen.


It's is nearing the end of May and there is no word on any PKI sponsored event. I still intend to make the trek from Omaha, but it would have been nice to see PKI involved. Unless, someone else has any news about an "official" event.

 

I wouldn't get too worried about it. Typical BMW fashion :smile: I remember the first Z3 Homecoming. We had folks coming from CA to SC and we only officially got about a weeks notice

I suppose it's possible that all the talk about a PKI event are "Internet rumors" but I agree with Debi. Don't give up just yet. But I don't intend to change my plans at this point and I look at it this way. Even if it would turn out that there was no "official" PKI event, we're going to crash the place anyway with several hundred MINIs, we get a great road trip out of the deal and we get to meet and hang out with other MINIacs from all over the country! What more could one ask for? Any "official" PKI event will just be icing on the cake!

I went to Snopes and could neither confirm or deny an "internet rumour". I'm going, rumour or not. You put together two or more MINIs and fun will automatically follow.

I really do hope you all show up. I'd have to thumb it home, and the odds of me catching a ride in a MINI that way, don't look very good.

!!TRAFFIC UPDATE!!

I talked to LJinNC as he was motoring up to Indiana yesterday afternoon. Traffic was flowing smoothly, albeit a little slow, across the Brent Spence Bridge across the Ohio River. The bridge construction at mm 123 in TN is a non issue, they're sandblasting, painting and repaving two bridges near Jellico. Both lanes are open. There were no other construction related issues to hold us up. He will be continuing his observations of road conditions during his return trip this weekend.

He also strongly recommends going straight thru town as opposed to taking I-275 around the East side. The view of Cincinnati by going straight thru is worth it, and the time spent in slower traffic would be equal to to or less than the time spent motoring around.
I will be getting in touch with my sister as we get close to town for a traffic report. There are also several interstate quality alternate routes thru town should there be any hang ups..

 

Another note on traffic. If there is a backup on I-75 thru Covington (where you come down the hill) into Cincy and you know about it before you get to 275 in KY, but you still want to drive through the city. Take 275 East to 471 North which will take you on the BigMac bridge (golden arches) and dump you onto 71N

 

Ed, I knew you'd have my back AGAIN . I just ordered the tickets and have made hotel reservations.
If we run into traffic jams, Tweety's nav should be able to get us around it.

I knows Cincinnati like the back of my hand.. I grew up there, and lived there after graduating from Miami U.. I know the back roads in and out of town to avoid either I-71 or I-75 if there's a backup.. I just really want to see the view on I-75 coming down the hill into town from KY..
Once we cross the river, we can head straight up I-71 or up I-75 and cross over to I-71 on either the Norwood Lateral, the Cross County Highway, I-275, or get off on Montgomery Rd and head straight up to Mason....

 

You lead and I will follow. You haven't gotten us lost yet!

 

Tickets are ordered!!!! I hope all of the rest of you guys are taking care of this.

Ed, I will defer to you on the best route we should take thru/around/under Cincy. We will be in your hands. I would just like to get to the hotel by 5 to give us enough time to check in , rest up a bit and make it to the Skyline by 7.

Hey guys, I just picked this up from the MINIsota Club forum. Check out this site http://www.motoringfile.com/ for the lastest national perspective on the PKI event. Looks like this is going to be a BIG event. It's definitely THE MINI event of the year!

I also read that the Kirkwood Inn has made some more rooms available so if you haven't been able to get a room yet, here's your chance but call soon!

Do we have one person on MINI side to coordinate activities at PKI?... like parade, parking by club perhaps, and MINI's throughout the park.

I assume that someone at the park will be coordinating all of that. All I can tell you that the count I have as of now by club in our caravan is:
