Sorry for not following this thread and getting back to you all with a location. I did say that I would do that. My attention has been on a health matter and I've not been on the boards.

If we are going to get onto the BRP around Asheville, I agree that exit 44 on I-40 isn't a great choice. Exit 50 is better choice for those traveling from the East.

Sometime this week, I will try to get some specific mileage from both directions to the Chick-fil-A or another suitable location near the entrance to the BRP on US 25.

Kevin if you were dealing with health concerns then you had no business worrying about this stuff. Fortunately I'm a little familiar with the area and could offer some suggestions. Take care and I hope we see you next Thursday. Wow it is just a little over a week away!

Hey MiniTiger! This is Lynn, please add me to the list too. I'm in Winston-Salem, so I'll be part of the group you pick up in Clemmons.

For anyone trvaling through Greensboro on the way to the Dragon you may want to fill up with gas at the Shell station at Wendover Ave. and I-40 (exit 214). I bought their 93 octane gas today for $2.23. And while that isn't cheap it beats what you have to pay for it anywhere else.

Hey everyone!

I was in the area of the Chick-Fil-A this weekend and got some specific mileages and directions:

From East of Asheville:
Traveling on I-40 West, take exit 50 - US 25 South (Hendersonville Rd);
Chick-Fil-A will be on the left at 3.9 miles (1 mile south of the BRP entrance).

From South of Asheville:
Traveling on I-26 West, take exit 37 - Skyland/Long Shoals Rd;
Take a right at the end of the ramp onto NC 146 East;
At 1.7 miles take a left onto US 25 North (Hendersonville Rd);
Chick-Fil-A will be on the right at 1.4 miles.

There are several places to eat right around Chick-Fil-A including Zaxby, Appleby, Wendys, Boston Market, and a BBQ place.

See you all on Thursday at 12:30pm at the Chick-Fil-A!!!

Kevin

Hey guys,

Do you mind if I join in things? I'm coming from Richmond and have nobody to caravan with... it's my first time down & while I'm not prone to getting lost, it’d be more fun to have a gang to travel with.

To make a long story short, for a while I didn't think I was going to get to the Dragon this year so I wasn’t up on my planning! As a former DC Metro MINI member (just moved south in March) I was going to meet up with them and caravan, but they decided to go I81 instead & that’s a good bit longer for me. I can meet you guys in Durham as I’ll be coming down I85 or some point west on I40. I can be there whenever is necessary. :smile:

Deb,

You can either come down I-85 and join the caravan around Durham or, if you could hook up with I-77, don't know if that would be closer for you, and hit I-40 in Statesville. Then head west for about 30 miles and meet us at he Shell station on exit 119 just west of Hickory at 11:00. Either one would work. Hope to see you on Thursday!

Eric

Looks like I77 is not a good option - my options for going west are I40 down in NC and I64 which takes me too far north (too long)...

I'll be coming south on I95 to pickup I85 and then I'll head west on I40. I think Clemmons is the first major pickup on I40 (and I didn't see any that are near I85) so I'll do that. I'm unfamiliar with NC so if I'm missing an earlier stop, somebody holler at me.

Glad to have you in the group!

I just corrected 1st post. You can meet us at 9:00am or a few minutes after in Greensboro just after I-85 and I-40 split at exit I-40 214.

(Yeah.... what Twister said!)

Just to confirm, this is the correct one?

Shell 4310 W Wendover Ave, Greensboro, NC 27407-1911

Roger... boy, I'm gonna need my caffeine Thursday morning! At least I'll miss all the traffic! But at 220 miles from home, I'll be halfway there by 9 am!

Can anybody post the specific directions we'll be taking from I40 into Fontana?

My folks like to know where to send the cops if I'm MIA.

If you check the eariler post it will give you the route. If the weather is good we will take I-40 to Asheville then after lunch take the Parkway to 23/74 just west of Waynesville and go west and pick up 28 west of Byrson City and go to Fontana.
If you have any problems on Thursday morning you can call my cell phone at 336-708-3802.
