I was kinda thinking the same thing.. That's where all the action is going to be  , plus it's right on the beach, which I think is where Trainmama wants to be..

OK, Lee, do we set up our own reservations, or is the club going to set up a block of rooms, maybe at a discount?

I'd like to stay at the host hotel, too, but want options for whoever might want to attend. I'm working hard to avoid another Italian dinner, Trainman.

I'll call today to find out about making reservations.

Is anyone interested in a non-host hotel?

From the looks of it and due to extreme closing nightmares with my house, I will not be able to make this event. We can say that I was taken to the cleaners for this stupid house. I just won't have the fundage to attend. At this rate, I'll be lucky to make the dragon! Does anyone have enough explosives to blow up just my unit?????

Michelle,
Sorry to hear about your house buying woes. This should be a celebratory occasion and not a PITA. I hate it for you.

I'm on board with everyone about the Hotel. I've been to conventions where we didn't stay at the host hotel and felt a bit left out.

When do we have to be there? 1st thing Saturday morning?
I have to move my schedule around a bit, so I kinda need to know. If this info is posted somewhere else, please point me in the right direction.

There's a schedule of events on the concours website (See first post on page one) We're looking at motoring down Friday afternoon, and returning Sunday Evening. All the driving tours are on Saturday, and the Concours is on Sunday..

Sorry to hear that you can't make it. As Audioman said, buying a house should be fun, not a terror.

I did take your name off the list, but let me know (soon) if you find thousands of dollars beneath that loose corner of the carpet and we'll put you back on.

As long as we're all together and I don't miss anything I'll be happy.

Hi LJ, how's it going?

Is there still room for me and my MINI?

It looks like a must-go event!

Please include me on the list.

Lee and Audioman,

When the fun starts, I will let you know, so far, I'm still waiting, although the terror has become second nature for me! As for the thousands of dollars...this guy was so cheap that he wouldn't have left a penny in that place even if it was fake! If something should change and I can make it, I will let you all know!

Yes, Wily, there's still room on the list for you. And you're on it now.

To the rest of you, there are some new names on the event participant list, so take a look. If you're interested, let me know; I'm going to have to close the list before too long.

Michelle,
I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but when a friend of mine bought his house, the lady he purchased it from was soooo cheap (HOW CHEAP WAS SHE?) that she took all of th light bulbs with her. true story.... some people, I guess.

At least the terror is during the halloween season. Maybe you can conjure some spirits to haunt him.

Had he thought about it, he probably would have taken them and the ice in the ice maker! Oh well, at least Shaun of the Dead made it all better!

Shaun rocked!

I have FINALLY joined up so I can converse with you guys. I am still planning on going to the Hilton Head event and I agree we should stay at the event hotel. What's the deal on reservations? Do we need to do this ourselves, will there be a block of rooms for M2C2 members, etc.???? I was hoping some folks would want to leave on Friday morning. Anybody interested in that? I'm really looking forward to this.

I'm good with staying at host hotel. We just need the info to make reservations at the group rate.

Triangle area MINI's probably need to leave around 12-1pm on Friday as well if we want to be there for Friday evening dinner or something.

If you are driving with Audioman, you can leave around 3:00pm ~330 miles @ 90MPH Sorry Keith, I couldn't resist.

Trainman, I might be interested in meeting up with you guys somewhere if there's no interest in leaving earlier from some of the folks here in western NC. Driving to Greenville would be heading in the wrong direction for me (I'm in Hickory) but maybe I could meet you guys somewhere in between. Do we have anymore specific information yet related to the event?

Chris, how many folks are going from your area? Maybe I could meet up with you all somewhere. I'm not sure if anyone else from here in western NC is going, except maybe Lee. Not sure where he lives tho. I don't know if Chris B. is going either.

Eric you can try to see if 20Cooper04 is going or Melindalou, they are from your area.

And Chris is right, if you are following Audioman you can leave at 3:00, but pack a good radar detector with you! Sorry Keith but as Chris said, I couldn't resist it either! Eric, did I mention an exceptionally good radar detector??? If you have one of those, you may want to lead!

Good news/bad news regarding the rooms:

The Marriott only set aside 35 rooms at the discounted rate and they've been gone for a while, as suspected. Mike Barrett, MINI USA's SE US Field Marketing Manager, told me this morning (Thursday) that MINI/BMW's a bit miffed at this, too, as they have a lot of people coming in; they're one of the event sponsors. The cheapest Marriott room at the moment -- a "semi-ocean view" room, whatever that is -- is $179. That's a bit steep: $360 (+taxes) for rooms for this event.

However, Mike's working with someone from BMWUSA to figure out what hotels are available in the area (and at what rates) and would be good candidates. He's going to get back to me later today or early tomorrow and I'll post the options as soon as possible. Them maybe we can figure out which hotel we want to make this club's headquarters. If nothing else, it'll likely be less expensive... and, Mike said, the host hotel in this case won't be doing that much hosting because people are going to be scattered around.

I'm sorry this has gone on so long; it's been a bit of a confused mess. I hope we can get everything tied up soon.

Michelle,

I may take you up on that. I'll give it some thought. By the way, I've talked to Melinda and she is not able to go.

MiniNC is driving down from Charlotte, maybe you can hook up with him. If we get out of Greenville by 1:00 we could meet up with y'all south of Columbia, SC around 2:30 near the I-77/I-26 interchange. And if it really works out right, we could meet up with anyone coming down I-95 an hour later near the I-26/I-95 interchange. Now that would be really cool!! . Having radios would be a good thing, and an exchange of cell phone numbers might help in getting meet-ups co-ordinated..

Eric, Lee lives in Flat Rock, near Hendersonville. Chris lives near the I-240/I-40 interchange on the east side of Asheville..

Thanks Lee for keeping us informed. We look forward to the results of your efforts.. An affordable hotel that we all can stay at..

I will be making the run in the morning, and returning that night if anyone is interested in grouping up.

Thanks

Trainman,

I'm hoping Lee and I can work things out and it would be great to meet you guys somewhere near the I-77/I-26 intersection. Maybe if the planets are lined up just right and the stars are in the right place, we can pull it off! I'm definitely interested in doing that. Radios and cell numbers would be a must.
