where's the mini love?

y'all have a nice forum here and i'm glad to find some like-minded mini drivers. but i must say...i'm disappointed with the lack of mini love on the road. where is the waving i anticipated before purchasing my '07 cooper s?
i'm on the interstate heading from rock hill to columbia and back every day. i pass two or three coopers a day...and none of them wave back at me.
am i alone here?

Mini etiquette does seem to have fallen off the last year or so. We've got folks in our neighborhood that refuse to acknowledge our waves. They just give us a look as though we're really strange. Of course that's true.

ushue2 Jul 19, 2010 06:02 PM

If you pass by me, I always try to wave at all MINIs, whether they wave or not. Keep the faith.

DooBahDoo Jul 19, 2010 06:02 PM

Just keep passing out the love...they'll come around...and if they don't...let them feel like the putz for not being nice. Keep on waving!!!!

+1

Cheers!!

I ride bikes too, and I find myself waving at them when I'm in the mini. So far, no returned waves! haha.

amberback Jul 20, 2010 12:14 PM

I always wave. There is a Pepper White that I see almost every day on my way home from work that NEVER waves back. Someday. SOMEDAY HE WILL.

+1 again.

I get about 1/3 to 1/2 wave response, from MINIs in town, and almost 100% near home.

But then, everyone waves at everyone else in my neighborhood, no matter what is being driven, bikes, cars, motorcycles, on foot, it doesn't matter!

I live in the boons, so even if we don't know a neighbor, we've seen 'em and that's enough to wave!

They all wave in my neck of the woods. Well in SC they have all they can do to drive, let alone wave at someone, hehehehe!

bigsoup52 Jul 21, 2010 09:20 AM

MAD-Town's Wave Return Rate = 10%; but I keep waving & flashing my lights anyway.

That's funny, Blucoopr! It's about half and half here in Concord. Too many young girlies driving while talking on their cell phones!!!???? They don't understand or care. Frustrating. Buy the car for the cute factor. In my opinion, there should be guidelines for who purchases a MINI! If you just want cute, buy a VW Bug! It comes in all sorts of cute colors and you can get daisey wheels! Oh and don't forget the flower vase by the steering wheel. If you seriously love driving a MINI, are attacted to the MINI's mean factor and get the MINI community, then you are allowed to own a MINI.

I understand the MINI etiquette to be
1. Acknowledge other MINI’s when passing on the road.
2. If there is another MINI in a parking lot, try to park close to it, so it’s not lonely.

Are there any others?

Hey! Watch it! Some of us 'young girlies' are MINI enthusiast too! :p

But seriously, you sound just like me. I go off on this rant every time I woman, young or old, driving a MINI and won't wave at me.
The guys usually wave.... but maybe they're just waving because a cute girl is waving at them?

Mat J Monk Jul 21, 2010 09:47 AM

Here's another thread talking about the same thing:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d-to-wave.html

I'm not having much luck getting the other MINI drivers to wave back when I pass them here in VA. Now the folks that I met on the run to Cooper Vineyards this weekend, I'll bet they all wave!

michmini Jul 21, 2010 10:58 AM

I followed a blue cooper the other day and at the light I motioned for her to roll down her window. She seemed friendly enough, so I told her I'd just bought one and then asked her how she liked it.

"Boot" she said.

What the heck does that mean?

If you are replying to threads in NAM, I'm definitely not speaking of you in my comments. hehehe Hope I didn't offend. I just see a lot of teenagers or young girls that appear to not really be in the MINI culture. Makes me wonder why have one? Guess parent's bought because of the cute thing. I know if I had one at that age, I'd be doing what I'm doing right now. Saving up for MODs and trying to straighten out those twisties! For those reasons my dad would never have bought me a MINI and why he didn't buy me that Z28 or Mach1 I wanted! lol Ok, that's showing my age.

ha! not offended at all, just joking with you. thought it was funny that i say the same thing all the time. "get a Bug if you just want a 'cute' car, MINIs arn't for 'cute'!"

Girlie_bird Jul 21, 2010 12:58 PM

Agree totally. Duchess is pretty sweet. But not for long! lol Like your Mindy! Load up those piccies so we can see more of her!

I think I'm going to start doing the flashing lights thing more. I usually wave. If people weren't reading or off in la la talking on their cell while they are driving, they would notice. Everyone I personally know with a MINI has the fever and they say it doesn't go away with time, which is great! How long have you had Mindy? I've had Duchess since mid April.

I got her the end of March. 9,000 miles motored already! :eek2:
I really should upload some photos. I was hoping to get some 'professional' ones done by some of my friends with fancy cameras, all I have is an iPhone and TERRRIBLE photo-taking skills.

Girlie_bird Jul 21, 2010 01:19 PM

You've been busy!!! hehehe I traded in my Mazda 3 for Duchess. The Mazda didn't even have 12,000 miles on her and I nearly had her for 3 years! Afraid to check the mileage on Duchess.

The 72 miles a day to/from work helps.
Mindy will be put away in the winter... or at least that is the current plan. We will see how long I can go without her.

Girlie_bird Jul 21, 2010 01:46 PM

I started working from home about 2-3 years ago, so there's the reason for my low mileage. But since I have Duchess, I always find an excuse to go for a drive. Sweetie, I'm stressed out...I come back in 2.5 hours. Sweetie, I forgot something on the shopping list....I come back in an hour. lol Sweetie has figured me out!

i traded my 3 in for a mini in march. since then, i have put 12,000 miles on it. now i need to tint the windows and replace the brake pads so the rims stay clean.

I actually like waving! When I was young and had a head full of curly hair, it was the freindliest hair in the world. The front would stand up and wave at the back and the back would stand up and wave at the front. Now I have to use my hand!
