"Art in the Park" trip to Blowing Rock on Saturday, June 12, 2010
Hello everyone!
I signed up to sponsor the "Art in the Park" trip to Blowing Rock on Saturday, June 12, so I wanted to post a schedule and make a list of everyone that can join us for what promises to be a fun filled day of "motoring" and "meandering!"
Art in the Park was created in 1962 by a handful of local Blowing Rock artists and craftspeople to showcase local talent. 46 years after its start, Art in the Park is host to 90 artisans at each show. Some of the best local and regional artists and craftspeople showcase their handcrafted jewelry, pottery, fiber, glass, photography, painting and more.
Art in the Park’s high standards and professional jury attract artisans from all over the Southeast to exhibit in a series of six shows, May through October. The quality of work exhibited draws thousands to the mountains each month.
Art in the Park is planned and administered by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber emphasizes the arts focus of this event. The town and area businesses are enthusiastic and participate with Art in the Park, and the public eagerly anticipates each season.
Here is the website if you would like more information on "Art in the Park." http://www.blowingrock.com/artinthepark/
We will plan to meet at 8:00 AM (at a place to be determined) and leave at 8:30 AM in order to arrive in Blowing Rock between 11:00 and 11:30 AM. I have a GREAT route planned that is full of hills and twisties (at least once we get "well" out of the Charlotte area
), which takes around 2 hours and 40 minutes. We will have lunch at a nice little British Pub called "The Six Pence Pub" on Main Street in downtown Blowing Rock, then we can walk to the park to spend a leisurely afternoon enjoying the arts and crafts. To keep the day from getting too long, we will plan to leave Blowing Rock around 4:30 to 5:00 PM and take an easy but scenic route back home which should take about 2 hours.
This should be a really fun "day-trip" to Blowing Rock....admission to the event is FREE and I'm sure we will all have a GREAT TIME! I hope you can join us! Please reply to this thread with the number of people attending and I will add you to the list!
See you then!

Hey everyone,
The link below is a map of were we are meeting. For those of you coming up from Columbia or from the west side of town, the I 485 is openall the way up to the I77. Exit 16 is route 16 take that north to the 150. We have noticed at work most GPS units do not know about either the new section of 16 and 485. If you get your Directions from Google you will save some time.

Woohoo -- I'm coming! I'll be meeting you guys up there since I need to stop and get the tires balanced and rotated before I go to Dallas. Some of my Charlotte friends are meeting us there too. See you tomorrow!
Great, Cindy! Glad you can make it! I am hoping to have the group at the "Six Pence Pub" (1121 Main Street) in Blowing Rock when they open at 11:30 AM. I will make the reservation under the club name "M2C2" so just tell them you are with us if you get there before we do. See you there!

Well, we didn't have a huge showing, but still a great time. The drive was very nice, and the Blowing Rock weather was gorgeous!! A 5-10 minute sprinkle, with temps in the mid 70's......it was a nice respite from the Charlotte heat! Art in the Park was fun as well. My wife says we'll likely go back next month to do it again. Thanks, Dennis for planning the driving route.......even with the snafu, it was still great.

My apologies to all who attended....I'm still not sure if Garmin "farted"....or if it was a GPS "operator error"....more than likely, the latter!
In any case, it's always a pleasure meeting up with friends for a fun day of "motoring!" I guess we'll just have to plan another trip to Blowing Rock....next time, NON-STOP!
