Last straw w/MINICHI!
Last straw w/MINICHI!
MINICHI left me stranded in rush hour traffic last night, so once it's back from Hendrick, it's for sale.
Something to do with the clutch. 1-2 shift, loud twang, and nothing. The gear box saws fine, and the clutch pedal has no effect. Tried to synch it into 2nd with revs to no avail.
Fortunately, I had self-declared casual Friday so I was dressed to push it out of the way. MINI USA had a flat bed there in 30 min so that was good, too.
Good thing for next owner, it'll have nearly all new parts! New fly wheel and clutch are in already...

Dave say it ain't so. 95K + miles on mine and no problems excecpt tires and rear brake pads at 74K still on the front ones. My clutch has been replaced also. It certainly doesn't have anything to do with the way we drive? lol? Good luck and don't sell your baby. But, if you do the BLUCOOPR may be for sale soon as the new coups come in in 2011.
Sorry to hear Dave!
Not to take away from Midnight Dave but I really need new brakes for my 05 Cooper. Front and back and 2 new rotors for the front. I guess when it goes out it goes out...LOL
Any suggestions on where to buy the parts reasonably?
I called a mechanic and they wanted almost $600 ... WOW!!!

Wish I had seen this a month ago or so..
Not to sound like a troublemaker, but your MINI breaks down 1 time and you're selling it? Kinda harsh don't you think? Your MINI is after all a mechanical device...something is going to give eventually. There is no car on the market that has a zero malfunction record.
Can you imagine your family trading you in for a replacement because you got the flu, broke a bone, or got an infection?
Wow.

No 96K on front pads now and have to wear them down before the 100K extended warranty is out. Had the rear ones done in Vegas along with oil change. Clutch was warranty recall for some part that broke, so they replaced the whole assembly. I am a retired trucker and I down-up shift all the time, no need for brakes. Only reason rear ones probably wore out 1st I use hand brake in mountain driving, especially coming down pikes peak, or Mt Evans in colorado. Motor on!
Lawmann, as everybody around here knows, I'm a little emotional about this decision. Let's just say it IS an informed decision and let it go at that.

Hey Lawmann, let me clue you in, please, so you'll think twice before taking shots? I'm not a doofus who would sell a car after one infraction, even a big one like this.
Notice the title of the the thread? Last straw? Hmm, sounds like something preceeded it, huh?
Let's see...Drive shaft = last straw. Prior to that, Flywheel was defective--this meant the car went into limp mode several times and every time it went in and every time they couldn't figure out the issue--don't fault Hendrick, it was a tricky one. Prior to that, side engine mount gave out as so many do. Prior to that, the clutch assembly gave out. Did I mention this is all under warranty? BTW, I've put $5K in mods on the car, been to track days, worked the Auto Show for Hendrick, went to the Dragon all this time, so it's not like I don't like the car. We're not done with repairs, I've had a wheel sensor replaced a couple times, and the reservoir cap. Like I said, this was the last straw, and I'm not keeping it out of warranty. It'll make somebody a great little car, with a lot of new parts, just not me...
You need to do a little research, like looking at a guy's post count before you assume they're a know nothing, first time poster...btw, leave my family out of it? ;-0

Yes, I've had my share of maintenance issues with Cassie:
Passenger window stopped working- 200 miles
Factory boost gauge stopped working- 300 miles
Motor mount ruptured leaking oil everywhere- 27,000 miles
Clutch replaced-27,000 miles
Wheel Sensor replaced 55,000 miles
Rotors replaced- 54,000 miles
Thermostat leak- 25,000 miles
Thermostat leaking again- 56,000 miles
Regarding my repairs, not all were under warranty. For the record, I have a few mods myself so I understand that. To complicate things for me, I am 2 hours from the nearest MINI dealership...what I would give to have the convenience of one where I live.
MidnightDave, I wasn't taking shots at you, sorry you took it that way. I simply thought you were giving up too soon on your MINI, but I understand not everyone is as patient as the next guy when it comes to these things.
I too am involved in a lot of events, travel many, many miles to attend them. I am glad you do the same, I just hate to see you stop having fun doing things like the Dragon and working with Hendrick; not that these have anything to do with the maintenance issue, but I understand how you feel. I guess my whole point was I hate to see anyone leave the MINI community, I feel we are all part of a family. Yeah, we may say something that gets misconstrued and upsets the other, sorry about that; but that happens in a close-knit community.
I guess if you are frustrated with your MINI it is best you sell it.
Again, my apologies for stepping on your toes. BTW, my post count isn't low either, even after not posting for quite a while.

Thought I would inset a promo on a new shop I was referred to just 30 minutes from my house (the garage is pristine)! Ruffcat is going to hate to hear this but I'm at least one up on her with my new lighted door sills (they glow blue to match my car). The shop is Import Connection in Mills River (between Asheville and Hendersonville, near the airport) and they only charge $140 for lighted sill installation!...that turned out to be hundreds less than all other quotes and they look great! Now that they have figured out the install on my car, they are ready for all interested takers. They are super busy (due to reasonable charges) and can be reached at 828-891-5309. Happy modding!
