March 14 St Patrick's Day Parade
Awesome. So is there anything that we need to do individually for this, or will it just be taken care of as a group? When and where will we need to meet up? Is anyone making a weekend out of this? I'm debating how many days to take off...
Boy it would be great if some 'out-of-towners' could come in Friday and spend the night; we could case out Five Points (the section of Columbia that holds the St. Patty parade and party; all have dinner at somewhere like LongHorns in the Vista; followed by coffee at Starbucks in the Vista; arrange a meeting place to queue the cars Saturday morning (8am..I think); probablly arrive earily than that to allow our babies to get into costume!! This is really going to be fun and good MINI publicity. Thanks, Carol, for getting us in!! Good job. Hope Art, Luke, John and some other Charlotians will join us! And Lawman may bring some of his posse. We can work on Charleston (Robbie and AJ) to bring up some also! May the luck of the Iriish be with us!!
I will have more information as it gets closer.. Rumorhas it.. this is a great party .. afterwards.. so.. Ben, if you want to spend the night down in Cola.. and for anyone else.. let me know.. we can try to get rooms here on post... for a cheap price... we could make a weekend out of it.. as Jim said.. meet Friday night.. and go from there..
Still not sure, would like to hear more voices about how you guys want to decorate the cars.. and do you want me to just buy the stuff.. and then split the cost.. or how do you want to do this?!?!

I can't wait, this is going to be fun...provided I get my back up call covered. I think we should all crash at Carol and David's Friday and Saturday night
Carol, if you have an idea of cost it would probably make sense for one person to get the costumes.. we could front you some money so you don't have to pay for it and get reimbursed.... What do you think. I miss all my MINI pals sooooooo much. Looking forward to Helen before that. I am still trying to get off time for Vegas and the Dragon as well....

Oops, I've already started gathering TILLEY's outfit. The plan is to have a large pot of gold over the back seat (again praying for good weather for the top down); a rainbow going over the front seat, from the windshield, down into the pot of gold. I'll, of course have on the leprechaun hat and beard! (No telling what Sheroyn will have on.) Large St. Patty faces on the right and left doors and 'something' on the dash. Party City has anything you want. Shame we can't throw out beads!! Maybe Carol and Sheroyn can walk along and hand them out.
ok here are some ideas.. I would need to know this week.. who wants them.. so I can order them.. the prices are on the site

I have solved the problem of an orange mini. One of the students (whio will be stationed here for a few years afterwards) at the Chaplain Advanced course, wants to join the club, and has a burnt orange cabrio, and wants to be in the parade. I'm getting together with him in the next day or two to give him information on the club and on the parade.
I've got a leprachaun antenna topper from Happy *****. I've been dealing with them quite regularly. They offer discounts and are extremely professional at getting their merchandise out quickly. Should I order a dozen?
I would like one--How much? Thanks!
Ok.... so let me cinch this thing down...
Friday 13 March 6:00 pm (or when you get here lol,I am taking the day off):
BBQ and car detailing at my house.. yes on post.. so in order to get on post...no worries, you just need your license, registration, and address your going to.. Email me or give me a call I will give you the directions.. and of course David can meet people anytime at McDonalds on Forest Dr, to bring you onto post and to our house....If you want bring something to share, and of course whatever you might want to drink.. I'll be throwing down steaks and chicken! If you are planning on spending the night.. you can either stay at our house.. or.. as Luke asked, to get him a room here on post.. I will be getting up early to head out to the parade site.. anyone who wants to go with me.. I'll have the info that friday night!
Sat March 14
the parade... again will have more information to follow when they send me the packet.. to let you all know where to be. I don't think it will hurt at all to be there super early as that part of town is going to be mad crazy!!! Remember we cannot throw candy from the cars, but if someone wants to walk.. and hand out stuff.. let me know! After the parade.. we can either stay down in the 5 points area, and do lunch.. I am sure there will be a place for us to leave the cars with the other parade entries.. if anyone needs anything or questions.. throw me an email or post here.. It looks like we may have 13 cars!!!!! Good showing I would think, Jim.. pls email me, I need to ask you a few questions, and would rather call so we can talk.. but I dont have your number, not sure why!

Hello everyone First, my apologies for being so late in sending out this information. Had a few minor details to work out before things could be finalized. I'm looking forward to a great parade and thank each of you for participating. For those who have participated in the past, please note the assembly area line-up has been changed. The westbound lanes on Devine Street and Millwood Avenue will be kept open for limited traffic this year. All parade staging will be in the Eastbound lanes. Very important - Dreher High School's parking lot CAN NOT be used, they have an event scheduled and need their parking lot. The only parking we have is in the Shandon United Methodist Church lot on Devine Street across the street from the church. Please plan your arrival so that you will be in place by 9:30 a.m.Also - please remember that nothing can be thrown from vehicles. The City of Columbia Police Department will be closely monitoring this. You can, however, have walkers hand out items Attached are the following
Parking Pass for Assembly Area - Please remember to write your unit # on the pass and display on your entry. A big marker works best Parade Guidelines Parade Line-up
Parade Assembly Area Map
Parade Dispersal Area Map
Again, thank you for participating in this year's parade. We're looking forward to a GREAT EVENT!!!! Don't forget all the other activities scheduled throughout the day - hope you plan on staying and enjoying the festival Pls

More Info!
We are lined up in position 54 out of 83!!!! So almost in the middle! We will stage on Millwood Ave on the right hand side. We need to arrive no later then 8 am, so I am figuring we should all be there by 730. The streets will be closed to all traffic other then parade traffic. For anyone who will be at my house on Friday night, I will have your parade unit numbers all printed out... if your not.. pls make sure you have in the left front of your windshield.. the #54. We can only enter on the Millwood St. If you have extra vehicles not going into the parad you can park in the Shandon United Methodist Church Parking lot. DO NOT PARK AT DREHER HIGH SCHOOL. It is recommended to go to the staging area as a group... we can figure out where we are meeting Friday.
Remember we cannot throw anything from the cars, but I am planning on walking part of it, so if anyone has things we can pass out.. bring it along.. my neighbor volunteered (co-oerced) into driving my car part of the way.
The parade will go up devine st, toward five polints
turn right on saluda ave ( all tight turns)
right onto Green street at the fountain
left onto Harden into far right lane..
Disband on Harden street starting at pendleton... the minis on that street need to be on the right hand side...
Thats all for now!
See ya soon
