Anyone Interested in a Drive?
Doc his son and I went to breakfast, then we bought a couple dozen Krispy Kreme Donuts and took them to the people at Hendrick. Don't be bored get out and do something. Was going to fly a kite today but its too windy, go figure! 22 March is open and April 12 & 26th. Ben maybe you could get up with Ondrovic and do a joint run? Well got to go work in the yard, I move the leaves one way, the wind puts them back and we do it over and over again!
Zactamundo.. maybe a joint venture would work? For those that would like to hike.. and the others who might want to motor.. just a thought
Yes, I know that and love waterfalls, cold beer bikini's etc. but Vegas is calling with a CAPITAL C. Were going to get Ben a pocket calendar so he can write down all the functions and won't get lost. You'all quit pick'n on him he is new at this and is working hard to get something going in Asheville area. I know it will be a good run, and I hate to miss it but I am more worried about getting back in time for the AUTOFAIR, since I am the Biscuit holder! Leaving the 22nd going to Houston Tx then to Mesa Az and Phoenix Az and ride up with those kids to Las Vegas. After the meet weather permitting on up to Denver Co. for a short visit and back to Charlotte NC by the 3rd or 4th hopefully, may have to use cruise control?
In the interest of not disappointing anyone, we went ahead yesterday and drove up to Lake Lure (where we owned a house with a direct view of Chimney Rock until two years ago -- hadn't changed a bit except it's not ours anymore
) and on through to Black Mountain. It was beautifully sunny and snowing!
Yep, sunny and snowing. Very cool.
Nothing was sticking, so all was good.
We stopped at Perry's in Black Mountain for giant plates of ribs, brisket, chopped beef and pork with all the fixin's (mac and cheese, beans, stewed apples, slaw, hushpuppies, more.... oh, God.... I'm still full...)
Stuffed ourselves back in the cars and took the back roads all the way home.
We had a great time. Paul had his first experience driving twisties and did extremely well. If it had been a bike rather than a MINI, he would have had lots of bugs in his teeth, he was grinning so hard!
I had my first experience driving a MINI through twisties and I was VERY impressed! I've ridden bikes in the mountains all my adult life and took my Z3 as frequently as I could -- fun on both counts, but a MINI...
Oh, my.
It was a good day. It could only have been better to have made the trip along with all of you... Maybe next time!

Went up to Blowing Rock with a friend yesterday. Took 321 to 221 then came back down 181. 221 and 181 are a blast, it was snowing a bit up there but not much and even found a waterfall.
Hot Springs Road Rally - April 26th
THIS THREAD HAS BEEN MOVED FROM "ANYONE INTERESTED IN A DRIVE."
The Hot Springs Road Rally round trip from Asheville, it's roughly 2 hours time and 80 miles. There are several mountains involved with non-stop switch-backs up and down. So, the new plan is to meet on a sunny day (PRAY FOR NO SNOW), I did it in the rain and not a good idea, and take this road up to Hot Springs for a late lunch.
We will meet at the Ingles on Patton Ave in Asheville (7 New Leicester Hwy, Asheville NC) at 11:00am. I know for several of you it will be a drive just to get to Asheville, so I didn't want to have the meeting too early. We'll start on our journey between 11:30 and 12:00. From there we will take NC-63 to NC-209 to Hot Springs, eat lunch, and then come back US-25/70 and NC-251. I will have handouts at Ingles of the course and a waiver for everyone to sign.
We are still planning to eat at Bridge Street Cafe and Inn, I've kept in touch with them, and they are looking forward to having us.

I'm a maybe, busier than heck at work, wifey's went part time so she's around on weekends, do Habitat for Humanity, and with warmer weather, I need to do some serious landscaping...doesn't leave much motoring time!

btw.. any snow your way?
