Griot's Garage Open House 8/27/2005

I was not aware that Griot's Garage has a distribution center in Plainfield, IN but they do. And I just received an email saying that they are having an open house on Saturday, 8/27/2005 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. For those not familiar with Griot's, check out their site, it's easier than me describing it: http://griotsgarage.com . Here's a link to a map of the location, and the address:

2185 Airwest Blvd.
Plainfield, IN 46168
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...%2ffCOLYTqAyeL

The email stated, and I quote - "Please be our guest and forward this to your friends and family - they're invited, too!" And what better friends are their than fellow MINIacs? So consider yourselves invited!

They will be doing car care demo's and there will be free hot dogs & drinks. The wife and I may take a drive down. I am not associated in any way with Griot's, other than having been a customer for a number of years. I have always had good service and quality products from them. If you have the time on Saturday, check them out.

Mods, if this is in any way inappropriate, feel free to delete it.

I am a fairly new customer of their products but have been very please so far. I received the email notice as well and will try to make the open house. I live near Speedway so it is a short drive for me.

The Miata club is planning on going out. Lets see if we can out number them with MINI's:grin:

Count Me In

Thanks for the heads-up. It's just up the road from me. I'll see you there.

Unfortunately, I've had something else come up and won't be making it down. But I hope you folks can assemble a good showing for them.

I hate when real life intrudes on my MINI plans!!

I was there with the PCA (hey, it was a beautiful day, and I hadn't had a good cruise in my 914 for awhile) and I was impressed with the facility and the product demos. I didn't notice any other MINIs there though -- lots of bigger bimmers, 'Vettes, Porsches, and even a Lotus Esprit.

How many of you "clay" your cars? I had never seen clay as a car care product before. It seems that stuff would be more of a hassle than it is worth. Any experiences good/bad to report?? The car for the clay demo was already really clean, so I didn't think I had a good opportunity to see this stuff in action...

Man I wish I could have gone....

As for the claying, yes, I've done it. Fafner has been Zymol'd twice, and I clay barred it before waxing both times. I also recently did it to our Toyota Matrix XRS since it has been mildly neglected since the MINI's arrival. The usefullness of the clay was very evident on the Matrix. My brother happened by while I was doing it, and was similar to you, not having seen anyone clay a car before. I had him feel an un-clayed panel vs. one I had finished and he was amazed. The clayed panel was as smooth and slick as glass.

I use Griots clay and their Speedshine as the lubricant, and it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to do the MINI. I plan on doing it prior to any waxing, just to give myself the best surface possible.

When I was there I think there were three other MINI's in the parking lot. I haven't used the clay yet but I will be in the near future. I think their Speed Shine product is the greatest thing since sliced bread and use it every time I wash the car. I talked to the Manager of the facility and can see MINICCI having a tech session here in the not too distant future. They are in the process of setting up a will-call so when you buy their products online you will save the shipping cost. The next step will be a retail outlet.

Awesome - a tech session there would be very cool.

I hope to come. Not sure if i will be able to bring the MINI do to miles, but I will be there..hopefully.

camminich Mar 21, 2006 08:43 PM

Wow, that is a bit of a trek from Columbus. Makes me feel bad that I am only about 9 miles.

DrDiff Mar 22, 2006 09:42 AM

Heck that is practicly my back yard!

S Curvz Mar 22, 2006 01:32 PM

I went to there warehouse in WA and was very pleased with the customer service. One of the sales people, who i guess was a phone rep, came out and showed me the results of using there products on his own car, it looked beautiful...and it wasnt even sunny. Very nice people.

That's not too bad. Three hours in a MINI seems like a good time to me. My plans are to motor over, barring any last minute changes my wife may have for me.
