MINIGURU will hate me for saying this , but I have the skid plate from Moss for just this reason. Also, keep in mind that the lowest portion of the vehicle is that little plastic wind-deflector underneath the front bumper. So, most stuff is "cut" down before going much farther. And, it sounds worse than it really is.

Thanks for the reassurance no damage is being done.

To let everyone know, I made it from Indianapolis to Hendricks County this morning (10" snow). Little car did great. It plowed Tansel, but held it's ground. All-seasons did fine too.

Huh? Dave, what's Tansel?
Drove mine to work today. Wasn't a problem once I got out of my driveway.
We have about 6 inches here in the Haute.

Tansel is a road. Just a part of my route.

Someone needs to come up with an aftermarket "drift cutter" plow blade that replaces the grill.

Snow Tire Choice

Is anybody out there using Nokia Hakapilata Qs (sp?)?

I've had them on a Saab and they're wonderful. Just wondering if anybody has some first hand MINI experience with them.

Merry Christmas

My girl stayed in the garage today since my Volvo was blocking. Had a hard enough time getting the 780 out but it managed. Wished I took the Cooper though.

I did say a PS/B S crossing Illinios on the south side of the City. One of ours?

I have Nokias on my week old MCS, they are hands down the best snow tires on the planet. I live in the snowbelt of Ontario (Creemore area) and this little car has been through some fantastic snow already. Today, I'm not going out as its dumping feet and not inches today.

I do think if I had the clearence, there would be no issue.

I was first out in the neighborhood and became the snow plow. Got about 20 feet and had to be pushed back to the house.

... for 4 15" steelies and Blizzaks. I bought 5th and toss it in the back. The rolling diameter is the same as my 17" performance tires. As for handling, I can't wait for snow. I have never driven anything that is as much fun to drive in the snow as the Mini (with the Blizzaks). This is my third (and probably last) season on the same tires, I do about 10k miles a year on them.

Ya. I had a similar experience getting through the mound of snow at the end of the drive (thanks Mr. Plow).

But, once I got to the center of the road, the MINI did the plowing. I always like getting bewildered stares from my neighbors.

Stuck

Well I have to say the MINI is FINALLY back in the garage. Got out at 6:10AM only to get stuck in the street and very end of the driveway. We are the house that gets all the wind in the neighborhood . The exhaust pipe was full of snow and a helpful neighbor at least pushed me back in the end of the drive. Called friend for a ride to work only to have his truck get stuck too ! After a few cars went through and made tracks (2 hours later) we got out of the drive and into work.

Oh yeah. I meant to thank MINIGURU for his help this morning. So.... Thanks. And the issue went away on its own.

Hopefully helpful tip for winter driving - don't let you washer fluid reservoirs run dry when it is well below freezing.

I was on the way from Greenwood to Columbus last Sunday, when it was 14F on 31S. Hit the washers and got a brief squirt before they ran out. I knew I had been running low, so when I stopped for gas a few miles later I bought some more washer fluid. Topped off both tanks, which emptied the bottle so I know both tanks were dry.

Tried the washers again once I was back on the road and nothing. Not the windshield, rear wiper or the headlights. Never did get them to work that day. I could hear the pump trying though. I've got the cold weather package and had the defroster on, along with the heat, so the nozzles weren't frozen.

No joy on Monday, and the appropriate fuses were intact when I checked.

Tuesday, when it finally got above freezing they worked just fine.

I've run them dry several times before, and driven hundreds of miles in 14 degree and colder temps, with no issues. I think this is the first time I did both at the same time.

I'm guessing that the hoses near the reservoirs froze up when they weren't completely full of fluid. Either that, or the last fill up was intended for temps that low.

I'll second that. Mine ABS has been grunting and groaning a fair amount this week too. I almost forgot it was still slick out in some areas today and just about put mine into a snow bank . Glad the ABS and DCS were doing the groaning. Better them than me.
