Mini/MINI Dashcam, Test Drive, Walkaround (etc) Videos: Post Your Links Here...
I'm hoping this can be the go-to thread on NAM for those wishing to provide links to their videos on YouTube, Vimeo, etc...
I've recently started a dashcam channel, Dashcam Georgia, featuring bad drivers and random encounters from my daily commute in Cobb County (NW suburb of Atlanta). My latest video ("Driving in Cobb County, Georgia -- 3") can be found at the below channel link. Please feel free to comment, like and subscribe!!! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC18...kmz_w/featured |
Great idea. I'll be contributing soon, as I just ordered a to try and catch some of the nonsense that goes on around these parts.
Would you mind taking a picture of your camera setup? My concern is that having a camera up front will look awful and be distracting. I don't even put my EZ Pass on my windshield (it's on the sunroof in my Forester and I keep it in the glovebox in my MINI. |
Hey thanks. I use a GoPro Hero 3+ Black, which is probably one of the most conspicuous cameras on the market. Mine is mounted at the centerline of the windshield in front of the rear view mirror. The suction cup supplied with the camera is very strong and the camera has never fallen off. The camera hangs down below the mirror, which allows access to the controls, and doesn't obstruct my vision too much either. However, the camera is VERY noticeable from outside; someone in front of me in traffic would have no problem seeing it, since it has a silver face. I've thought about blackening it with a Sharpie, but haven't gotten around to that yet (been too busy editing and posting videos) :) If I get a chance over the coming weekend, I'll try to take a couple photos.
The Mobius is very small and discrete; I doubt anybody would notice it inside your MINI, unless they were specifically looking for it. Also, the Mobius is very popular with dashcammers. Also, about posting videos here. Not sure, but NAM bandwidth limits might cause HD videos on here to play back choppy. Initially, I linked my post directly to the video so that it would play on NAM. Poor performance (and fear of a spanking from the NAM admin :( ) prompted me to change the link so that it points to my channel in a different window. That way, all of the videos on the channel are accessible to potential viewers. Do you have a youtube channel set up yet? Thanks again for posting! |
Mini0806 is what I have been using for the last 4 months with no issues. I like the quality of the video, the features, and the size. I have it mounted behind the RV mirror and is barely noticeable from the outside; one has to look very hard to notice it. This camera is very inexpensive; paid $125 at Amazon. Below is the link to a very fair & objective review.

Links to pictures showing Flipper GoPro install. I went ahead and camo'd the camera with a Sharpie. :) The camera is fitted with a Polar Pro polarizing lens.

Nice, thanks Flipper & Punkin.
We got the Mobius, but I haven't had a chance to install it yet. |
Awesome; enjoy the new camera. I think you'll be happy with that model. Other channels to check out: HaloMasterMind117 (he's the generally recognized top dog of all dashcammers), Volvo Dashcam, and GA RoadEncounters (he and I cover some of the same territory here in Cobb County.

Save yourself money, find a dealer that has courtesy vehicles that the dealer lends out when people have their Mini being worked on... You'll save money there and enough to get an S, which is very fun. The Justa is a great car but it doesn't compare to my S even in standard mode. Reminds me of my base Countryman I had prior, that thing was slow..
The S model is a very fun car to drive and I just keep on smiling each time I get in mine. |

Thanks. It looks a lot better on the hard drive; YouTube compression is fairly brutal. Thanks for watching!!

I bought a Vantrue R2 dashcam at the recent Amazon Prime Day sale and have been very impressed. The video quality is very good in the day but sometimes it cannot get the contrast correct to see license plates at night that are illuminated by my headlights. The dashcam is not that inconspicuous in my car but it's easy to remove from the mount, and it's very convenient that the power cable plugs into the mount and not the camera itself so you don't have you remove that each time:
https://goo.gl/photos/1A2kiStGk86bQh8W8 Here's a youtube video of the quality that I took a while back: I was able to hide the power wire along the top of the headliner, around the a pillar, down through the weather stripping, along the bottom edge of the passenger glovebox and to the cigarette lighter in the center. |
Vantrues are popular on YouTube; they have a nice price point. The YouTube codec is very aggressive and tends to level the playing field with regards to video quality. I viewed your video full screen on YouTube and the Vantrue is doing a good job.
About the nighttime video, on extremely rare occasions, I will turn off headlights and let the parking lights illuminate the tag in front of me to increase the chances of being able to see it later on the video. Just be glad the windshield of your 2013 is not as pitted as my 2005. ;) |

Hey so I caught this with my bikerpro dashcam on saturday, (bikerHD Pro Bullet cam is a weather proof dashcam for motorcycles, and since my bike is parked for the season, I put it in my Mini as a rear facing camera) the biker pro cam is the rear facing cam (the front cam is a mobius). I had to crop the rear video as I had only temporarily installed it with velcro in the back of my mini, and because of the stiffness of the cable to the camera lens part, it kind of twists so it is not straight. Since then (on sunday) I have used a gopro mount and installed it properly (since I see the value of a rear cam now) and now it captures a perfect view out of the rear window, with no obstructions and is perfectly straight, any way onto the video, the video description has all the details:

Nice capture. I left a comment on your YouTube channel.
