I got there late. The VW had a lot done to the suspension and nicely tricked out engine (Twin Webbers, cam, bore and stroke changed etc). I went back the following week and saw the following:

Ya get to see a lot when ya get thar on time.
go to this link for more: http://dac.smugmug.com/Cars/cars-and-coffee

The above were taken with a D300 and Nikkor 17-55. The shots you quoted were taken with a rented 11-16 f 2.8. I now own a copy just like the rented one. Hope to use it some this weekend.

Hey I was going to say that But I love most cars especially classics so I'm not trying to hate on the bug just laughing cause it's surrounded by way more expensive cars and it's one of the cheapest cars available right now cause there are so many. I was actually thinking about getting one but thought a newer car would be much more practical. Love that Mini and Jag and Alfa they look sick Need to get a camera like that

No problem. I didn't read any hate in your post, just surprise that the Vdub was there. The nice part about this impromptu breakfast event is that made up of gear heads. Some have money others don't. Old farts and young.
That is part of what makes the event so much fun.

Nice pictures. You have a good eye and put depth of field to good use through out the collection. Looks like a fun event. I love the Pontiac valve cover!
I just got the Tokina. I rented it for a weekend and thought that it was nice but nothing that special. Then the following week I went to the breakfast gathering (on time) and really missed being able to go wide and get very close. I took this shot of the VW engine bay. I was from inside the engine.

then this shot from over the bumper.

I'll spare everyone the shots of the puppy at home. But the long and short of it was I missed being able to get close. I could not have got either shot with the 17-55. That lens is a very good lens and still the lens that lives on the camera, but for car events, some landscapes, and in house shots I will be using the Tokina.

I went to a creek and my friend used a coat hanger to swing burning steel wool around, embers would fly off and would create streaks.

Canon T2i, 18-55mm, 400 ISO, F4, 3.2"

We lit the steel wool using a 9v battery that way its not burning, just embers that can release and fly. Make sure to wear a glove and eye protection and hat, my buddy burned some of his hair.
