I'm going for my first ever MINI event. I will driving my 2012 Mini Cooper S. Coming from Maine, will be down in the area for business and decided to stick around, take a few days off and have some major MINI fun!

2002 Cooper S

Been a fun car. Thus far Ive encountered ever common Mini problem...

Leaking sunroof drains,Bad Oil Pressure Switch, Rusty coil pack, Dirty MAP sensor, Leaky Intercooler boots and a bad Bypass Valve.

I added a CAI and a Detroit Tuned Bypass valve. Plugs, Wires and Coil. Replaced some bushings. She runs great now. It amazes me how some people can just let their cars go to crap! Next is a New Pulley and an Alta Belt tensioner to be safe.

I got the car for a steal. The previous owner must have been a Honda lover. He cut the mufflers off to make it louder. It was awful. I'm saving for a nice full exhaust so I welded in a resonator to hold me over till I get a full setup. Sounds decent now and I have my low end torque back. Also Its on a full coil over setup which is nice. But its way too low for me. I just ordered the wrench to raise it back up.

Will it will be nice to meet you and check out the Gen 1. I have a lot of respect for the guys who are maintaining their Minis like they should.

My first MOT, it was great. The figure I heard was about 270 MINIs. The organization was superb - from the group meeting at the Loon Mtn parking lot to the run to Mt Washington (we took the Hurricane route - wow) to the dinner and awards. Things I noticed:

1. People were really nice. I don't know why this surprised me, but it was just a really friendly group. I had my two kids (in their early 20's) in my 2015 4door f55, and when we were in the wrong place trying to get into the queue for the Hurricane, Matt from Maine gave us a big wave and let us in. (Later Matt won the "Most Miles Driven Per Year" award !). Chatted with Matt and several others at the stops, really enjoyed the group.

2. There are no two cars alike, but really no two are even very similar. Lots of individualization.

3. All the cars were from the current BMW-owned lineage, I'd expected to see some older product.

4. The cars all looked good. Here in New England we apply so much winter salt you can almost get stuck in it, so by the time cars reach 10 years old (often earlier, sadly) you frequently see quite a bit of rust. It appears these cars are holding up well.

All said, we had a great time. So glad we had a chance to go along. And Thank You to all those who made it happen !
