Oil Changes 2024's
 

My Wife and I about a month ago both bought Mini's. One JCW convertible and one S, (Seaside) convertible. My dealer is supposed to change the oil in the cars at 10,000 miles but I don't want them going past 5000 miles. I've found the Castrol Edge 0W-20 that makes the BMW oil but I can't find the oil filters. Are they spin on or cartridge type and can anyone steer me in the proper direction to the filters?

If you want to do the service yourself why not just buy the oil and filter at a MINI dealer parts department? Thus you use the right oil and filter.

Well, because if I can buy the oil and filter at Wally World or AutoZone, I'm saving more money. I'm sure the oil and filter are marked up quite a bit at the BMW / Mini dealer. If all else fails I will buy at the dealer.

Save money else where use the factory oil & filter from Mini/BMW. Cars look great... Enjoy them.

yes. the fitments of o-rings, plugs, filters, and the oil itself is best to get OEM.

10k mile oil change on a Direct injection turbo charged motor does well to make BMW a lot of money as your car implodes way earlier, or at the least, wears out sadly.

5k miles is a great suggestion for anyone and everyone in 2023.

Congrats on two great looking MINI’s! I’ve personally not seen the filters for sale at Walmart. Make sure the oil you are using meets the current BMW Longlife 14FE+ or longlife 17FE+ spec, not just any 0w-20 will do. I personally order the oil and filters for my 2022 Cooper S from ECSTuning.com who is a sponsor here. Filters by Mann, Hengst, or Genuine MINI all should be the same OEM filter. The filter part number should be 11428593186.

Oil is called out on sticker in the engine bay 5w-30 was the standard but MINI recommends 0w-20 or 0w-30 weights dependent on year and engine for the newer F series engines. Has to meet those new Longlife standards also if you do the aftermarket oil.

Watch as some of those NoName Amazon and Ebay filters tend to lint the filter materials and they can clog the VVT system aka valvetronics.

As a person with 3 MINIs and have drove almost 297K on one and 300K on the other two combined = 600K miles total. , i would just run the Genuine or select good aftermarkets.

I do mine at 5K-7.5K. Did not do the long 15K or 10K as long as I have owned them.


BTW those are great MINIs and you did spend up on the right ones. :)

Buy your oil local if you want just make sure it's the correct spec, buy the filter from the dealer and save yourself issues down the road.

My dealer changed my oil at 5,000 miles and it was covered under the maintenance plan. You should ask if they will do it at 5,000.If they say no, the I would simply pay them to do it. It's not worth the time and effort to do it yourself.

What for brand of oil to they use at the dealer?

Got a minor problem with the red one. What's that big ugly black thing on top of it? Topless motoring IS motoring at its best. As stated numerous times herein, timely service on everything will give you maximum enjoyment. One additional service area for the top canvas, RaggTopp, and we enjoy sheepskin seat covers.
