To add some info to this thread, I finally got a chance to test fit the new to me Motegi MR118 17x8 +45 rims i picked up a few months ago for $120, onto my 16 JCW. without spacers they are close to the strut, though I suspect a 5mm is in the future once i get the 215/45-17 RE-71R's from my old R53 mounted on them. I will also need to source some new centering rings to make them work (plastic or aluminum for tracking?) as well as some new lugs as the OE bolts are too large to fit in the counterbore. the shank of the bolts fit through the thru hole though. they do provide plenty of clearance to the calipers though. Just another low cost option for anyone looking for 17's for these cars.

My plastic hub centering rings melted at a hot day at the track, so I got some aluminum ones and haven't looked back.

For both my Team Dynamics and Sparco wheels, I use Coyote Wheel Accessories 73-6656M Hub Centric Ring, Set of 4 (73mm OD to 66.56mm ID Aluminum)
