Secondary Air Error Code

I am getting an error code that says Secondary Air. I have to use Carly to check for BMW codes because no P codes show up. Everything is fully built and I have the block off plate where the OE recirc was and I am running a turbosmart Raceport blowoff, factory the valve came with an 18lb spring and I put the 14lb springs in as the 18 was to stiff it wouldn’t blow off. Yesterday I was data logging and hit 21lbs and then right after it went into limp mode and it wouldn’t go past 10lbs and now the BOV doesn’t blow off I get compressor surge and then misfires. I do know the wastegate is controlled by the pressure converter and it was working because I was getting boost. Does the Mini Cooper have Secondary Air system and if so is that the pressure converter, and if so how can I check if it is functioning correctly?

Waste gate and BOV / DV are totally independent. Sounds to me like the the BOV has a problem. Is it connected as a BOV or DV --- plumbed to dump back into pre-turbo or dump into atmosphere? The ECU expects a closed system --- dump back to pre-turbo, UNLESS you have a tune that compensates for the "lost" air. Either way, clearing the code should get you back on the road --- 'til you get on it again.

It’s plumbed to atmosphere so I’ll ask Aaric about the tune. I know Minis like their recirc’d air

The OEM DV had an electrical connector. When the DV is removed, this connector needs to be connected to something the ECU recognizes --- a dummy load of some sort. I use a 12 ohm resistor, simulating the impedance of the DV. You could also just connect the old DV, but don't put it back in the turbo. When the ECU sends a signal to activate the DV, it expects an immediate response --- no (or late) response, then CEL. If your DV connector is just "flopping in the breeze", this could be your problem.
