2012 clubman jcw $17,000 good deal?

I come from the bmw e30 world so new to the mini’s. I have been doing quite a bit of research because this deal came around to me and I guess I’m having trouble pulling the trigger.

the car offered is a fully loaded 2012 JCW Clubman. Recaro seats, etc. Sticker was over 40k. Clean excellent condition with all the records. About 50k miles.

I’m aware of the n14 issues, however, from what I gather they are manageable. It’s had the tensioner replaced and oil checked and tipped off monthly.

I don’t see too many for sale so I’m asking the forum, Is $17k a good deal? Anyone have any insight that would help pursuade me either way. Thanks all

I got my JCW R55 back in Dec and it wasn't near that price so that is pretty high, I felt like I paid extra just because it had the right options I was wanting, but if someone wants it that's up to them.

High but might be worth it. Mine is a 2010 with 50k miles and I'd still push for a selling price around that range.

Prior to acquiring my 14 JCW, I was seriously looking at S4 avant, 2003 M5, or even a 996 4s, I checked Edmund tmv, NADA n KBB, the values on these older cars are all lower than asking and sale prices. But with the recent Minis, you can prob check them and go by the book values? I paid a couple hundred bucks over the mean book value of all 3.

JCW didn't get the N18 until 2013.

Kelly Blue Book puts it at 17k. It seems high to me thus I was wondering if this was really the going rate. I guess I just don't see enough for sale.

I think I would hold off and keep scouring the Internet for a better deal.

In my case, the asking was $4k over book value. They held out until the end of the month to get it off of the book. I was willing to go a little overbook as it was my choice of color. Make them an offer of your liking, you got nothing to lose.....

All relative to whether or not it has the options you’re looking for. A JCW clubman is rare, with recaros, even more so. When you say fully loaded, does that mean it has things like sunroof and nav, or with the way MINI options it, does it have everything including rear fogs, cornering headlights, etc.?

Admittedly, it is high for a 6 year old car to be holding that much of its value. Maybe it gives you some negotiating points based on the known upkeep of the N14 and age?

BMWM42 08-25-2018 09:23 AM

It has technology pkg, premium pkg, cold weather pkg, mini connect and nav, panoramic sunroof, adaptive headlights, rear fog, Recaro seats. $44k sticker. I drive a ‘91 bmw so I’m not used to a lot of options, but don’t get me wrong I do enjoy them. I was thinking I’d try and knock it down 1500 or so

NJ Mini 08-25-2018 07:37 PM

I have an issue with options, always feel like I’m missing something when there is a blank spot on the console where a switch or button should be.

Sounds like you have have a good approach on pricing. Best of luck and let us know how it turns out.

Any luck? Those Recaro's are pretty rare....esp in a Clubman. I've only seen one other Clubman with factory Recaros....tried to buy them for my car!

jp86 12-16-2018 01:21 PM

I bought my 2012 r55 jcw with the same options you described, even factory recaros, with 43k miles, for 14k last year.

Sokol 12-16-2018 01:55 PM

Good deal.... if you dont want it then buy my 13 GP 50 k miles 16500

I don’t know the numbers for fJCWs in recent years, but in the first year, 2009, there were 498 imported to the US. This number came from a UK trade agency that tracks UK auto exports. No data by body shell, but if you split that 498 by how the general population breaks down, that 498 included about 120 Clubmans.

Alpha Motoring 05-04-2019 08:20 PM

Try to get a 13 n18 jcw for that price

MiniSJCW 05-08-2019 12:23 PM

Hi,
If the price was more like $13K it would sound better to me considering thet the car has 50K miles on it and some of those nice stock JCW parts may start needing replacement soon.
