Is this a JCW cylinder head? (pic attached)
Considering this engine to replace the one in my '06 R52 JCW car that I bought a while back.....
I looked for exhaust port measurement differences in the forum, and could not find any info......most threads say that the exhaust ports are larger......
So here is pic of the engine in question.......does it look like a JCW cylinder head? (I don't see a red or green painted dot in the other pics that the wrecking yard sent me......so I'm not sure)

Hard to tell from that pic. Cleaning around the port opening and a clearer, more head on pic would help. According to this post: https://www.minitorque.com/forum/f845/jcw-vs-oem-19566/ the JCW exhaust ports should look taller, and maybe a little wider than a regular head.

Do they say it runs and has no broken parts? Has the compression been tested to make sure it is sound?
You need to find out as much as you can, before dropping a ton of $$$$ on it.
What am I looking at on the left side engine block? to the left of the oil filter housing. It looks like the starter part of the block is broken off.

That is great news! The picture fibbed me!
Get a starter on it and check compression(for yourself), before you put it in, that way you can do whatever needs doing easier.

Yea, that's the plan when I get it mounted on my engine stand, the clutch & flywheel are still attached to the wrecking yard engine......I have a brand new starter here that I got for my '04 R53 a year ago and never got around to installing it......I'm gonna get an oil filter and put oil in the engine, install my mechanical oil pressure gauge and see what the pressure is while I check compression.......
I just have to clear some space in the garage now to work and pull the engine out of the R52
