WTB: JCW air box vacuum line
Hey Guys,
Anyone have a JCW air box laying around they are willing to part out?
Just got my car back from the mechanic and it looks like they broke the vacuum line (#3, long skinny one) that goes into the JCW air box. See attachment.
I tried ordering through the dealer, but they don't sell that part separately.
Thanks in advance.
Michael

Similar question, was feeling adventurous and decided to check the air filter on my 05 JCW. I bought it a year ago from the second owner and have about 50 k miles on it now. Removing the air box was more involved than I had expected from watching some of the R53 S videos. As I was re-assembling the box, the line that comes out the front of the box (toward the grille) dropped into the engine compartment. I managed to fish it out, however, it is now attached to...nothing. I let it idle for about 15 minutes and aside from more of a whistle than I usually hear, nothing seemed wrong. My question is, where does the end of the line connect to? I can't make out any likely disconnected lines which doesn't surprise me. What are the consequences and what does the line connect to? Any advice would be appreciated.

Help, don't know what type of plug this is.

ya idk either. I have a jcw and on the back of he box there is a flap that is connected too that wire. Now if that wire controls that I don' have a clue. And just like you mine came broken. I guess when I moved it it finished it off, or I just hadent noticed before. A check engine light comes on for me but goes off after like 20 seconds of idle. Not sure. Took it too mini and they did an obd2 check and saw nothing. This been after the connection loss I found. For now I have just left it. One more question. Have you had any problems with your trans or diff... Do you have a 6spd manual jcw??. My trans wines and diff squeaks when turning. Possibly a lube problem but seems too common.

The JCW airbox is set up so the flap at the back only opens at a particular RPM, thinking 4000. It is for car noise mandates. I not only disconnected the vacuum hose (plugged it off) but also removed all of the parts within the box. There is an electrical plug that goes through the plastic wall into the fire wall area.
When did you have the differential oil changed last? Also, if you are getting noises while turning it could be either a driveshaft or a wheel bearing.

Just had my airbox out for the first time yesterday and noticed that the thin brittle vacuum line (16) is broken, traced it back to the BPV and plugged the line.
It didn't seem like there was a vacuum leak and I would have never guessed as idle was stable ---
how do these cars respond to vacuum leaks?
What are the identifiable symptoms?
I'm thinking of doing what WnW did and remove all associated flapper hardware.
The previous owner was good and had a nice Amsoil filter in there.
He had also let me know that he had de-flapped the airbox, but I noticed that there was a round opening and it had a blockplate in it,
#19 in the diagram:
Dealer lists it as a "Sound flap" - 13717558249 - and it sells for $59.97!
I'll probably remove it as well, but I didn't know its purpose yesterday so I left it there.

You don't need to take "all associated flapper hardware" off/apart.
All you have to do is remove the butterfly (flapper !). Simple, takes about 5 minutes after you remove the airbox lid.
Leave everything else connected. That way, the cars electronics, "think" everything is working properly.
