My old boss had a good saying; one ah shucks cancels out ten attaboys.

Appears you have more than one . . . . .

Sounds like you got your $$$ back. Congrats if so!

Still amazed by this total screw up. How they can allow a thread titled "Dinantronics Elite a scam?" to exist without having fixed it for you immediately is beyond belief.

Hopefully mine doesn't go kaput or I'll be in trouble.

Well the money isn't back in my account yet so I cant call it a complete success. Yes you would think that it would have been a higher priority since it was on a site with over 100K members. The funny thing was on Friday when I talked to them they were still using the move as an excuse.

Maybe they were walking things over from California to Alabama. That might explain the delay.

After 10,000 trouble-free miles and the annual trip to the dealer for scheduled maintenance with the Dinan remaining in place through the software update and the annual service, I'm still lovin' my el cheapo Dinan Sport with 3 psi extra boost. Now that my hand has healed up from the installation.

But I'm old and slow.

they have been operating out of the APR HQ since the end of March.

it's a matter of time before APR absorbs all engineering and operations.

I just put in that Dinan Sport this weekend. It is a PITA to squeeze into place. Comparing this experience to my previous NM Module... I mean, it should be so easy. But the way the sensor is angled at least on my JCW hardtop (2019) I had to clip in backwards and upside down with little hand clearance...

You're gonna love it. But it only works right if you bled while installing the sensor plug. And you get 5 extra horsepower if you lost one of the grey clips during the installation.

Try Sport+ with premium gas, with the car in Sport Mode and, starting a bit below 1500RPM, you'll feel it pulling hard. Race mode is fun but not well balanced in my experience and, the only time I got a little knock, was when it was hot, in stop and go, with the IC fully heat soaked and the Dinan in Race. So I dialed back to Sport+ and have been more than satisfied ever since. Dinan told me Sport+ is the best balance between performance and smooth integration with the car's internal programming.

The Bluetooth smartphone boost gauge is iffy, but with patience you can get occasional good readings. Bluetooth is mostly good just to toggle among the boost options.

I've got 1k on my elite, and it's still working great. I'm not sure how they didn't get Scottkenny sorted out, but mine came in the middle of his ordeal and is working properly.

Now if only they'd have that app ready...

Now I have a dilemma. Bytetronik comes today but for some reason Dinan who is giving me a refund decided to ship a new Elite kit next day air after the sales rep told them not to ship it. Which arrived today. .... Do I try the new unit or just wait a fire hours for the Bytetronik to show up.

Curiosity would make me want to try it. I'd also want to know how different the two systems are.

Ultimately it seems Dinan vs. Scottkenny are not meant to be a team.

Best of luck with whatever you do.

I don’t have the wires hooked up anymore because after the second I it failed they had me send everything back. I just sent my ECU data to Bytetronik.

If your agreement with Dinan is that you will receive full credit, then before opening the unit you just received (in error, obviously), I would advise contacting Dinan, yet again, and ask them what they want to do.

Then the question is, what do you want? An ECU tune or a plug in box?

Just because Dinan customer service fumbled many times and badly so with you doesn't mean you can't act honorably, IMHO.

But I sure wouldn't return the unit they just sent you until you see the credit come through that has been promised. And I would insist, if they want their unit back, that they send you a pre-paid shipping label so if it goes back to Dinan, it does so on their dime.

FWIW, your experience with Dinan is truly odd and distressing. Very different from the way they responded and did business just a short year ago. Sad.

It wasn’t an ethical dilemma it was which I wanted to use or if I wanted to test the Dinan first. I ended up starting the Bytetronik install.

Thanks to Way it looks like I'm going to finally get a refund for my Elite. I'm probably going to uninstall it tonight or tomorrow. Let me know how it goes with Byte. I wanted to stay warranty friendly but that didn't work out and I sure as sh it am not driving a turbo car at stock boost levels. lol

Best,
Gene

Gene,
Glad you are getting a refund. I installed the step colder plugs in about 20 minutes. I did go have to by the right star socket though. I sent them my ECU data and in 2 hours they sent me the map. It took 20 minutes to reprogram and recode Ecu. I will test it tomorrow and let you know.

Scott,

Glad to hear it was that easy. May you have way more success tomorrow. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Just an FYI there is not a 1 step colder plug made for the b46, b48, or b58 engines. I have a friend who works for NGK and has researched this for me. I would be interested to see what part number NGK plugs were sold to you as an "upgrade".

That's what I thought they were. Just wanted confirmation. I am creating a PSA thread regarding spark plugs for the b46 and b48 Mini's

These plugs are not an upgrade and IMO they are a downgrade.
