Exhaust...want my JCW to be a bit louder

Morning all

Looking at various exhaust options for a little more volume.

I've had a fantastic offer on a Pro Exhaust but I'm just seeing what other options I've got.

Pro exhaust is coming in at 1800$ fitted.

I like the idea of having the ability to control the volume through the value...

Also does anyone know what sport mode does to the exhaust? Anything at all? Or just software mapping to add a little extra fuel for the pops?

Thanks!

I took my R58 JCW to the muffler shop and had them chop off the resonator. Best $100 I've spent. There's a few Youtube videos you can listen to so you get an idea of what it would sound like...here's mine:

For you the Remus would be a better deal at ~1550. The JCW PRO exhaust kit usually comes with the JCW tune for that price and you don't need the tune. The JCW Tuning Kit (exhaust+tune) was/is intended for the MCS. The flap on the Remus has I think 4 settings vs on an off on the JCW Pro.

The Remus is actually more expensive in the UK...

1900 $ Remus
1800 $ JCW Pro

From what I have heard, the Remus is a deeper more bassy tone, vs the JCW Pro which is higher pitched?

Also that the JCW in "track mode" is louder?

The JCW in track mode is just a straight pipe. I believe the Remus is also. I have friend with an independent shop who is a certified BMW/Mini tech who sold the exhaust only for a very good price to a NAM member. He kept the tune and sold it to someone with an MCS. I have HAD my JCW exhaust fly unplugged (OPEN ALL THE TIME) for the last year, but now that I'm installing the Milltek Catless DP I'll be hooking it back up.

Catless DP was another thing I was considering, but the labour involved is putting me off, as inevitable at some point in the future I would be putting it back on - possibly for annual MOTs etc, which would instantly prevent me from doing it.

I believe my local Mini specialst quote 4 hours fitting time!

Also not heard / seen many people with these (yet) and IMO the OEM BMW downpipe looks to be pretty good.

UK only has 1 cat too, I belive the US has 2 cats

Do a muffler delete and get a straight pipe added to the section you removed

Is the JCW Pro exhaust literally a straight pipe straight from the downpipe (when in track mode) or is there still a central resonator?

In the US there is a secondary cat on the midpipe. You UK guys have just one cat in the downpipe if im not mistaken.

And yes, with the flap open it is a straight pipe

So no other centre-resonator?

Just wondering, as most people with the JCW Pro exhaust drive with the flap open 99% of the time... why not just get a straight pipe exhaust and save 1700 $

I am considering adding a 3 inch pipe from the downpipe back, into a Varex Muffler with a valve built in (after I install a 3 inch catless DP):

Be careful going 3in all the way back. There is a user on here that had a similar setup and ended up destroying is engine.

Challenge cars dont even run 3in piping

I fail to see how a .25 inch larger exhaust pipe could destroy an engine.

Im just telling you what happened on here. There was a catastrophic engine failure and the variables were a tune and a 3in pipe throughout

A tune could do some real damage to an engine. But you could literally cut off the exhaust after the header and be fine. It would make the torque curve weirder and possibly screw up fuel economy, but it would not damage the engine.

Does the JCW Pro drone at all with the valve open?

Muffler delete sounds very good on my friend's JCW. It doesn't cost much, so you may as well try it first before spending money on the jcw pro exhaust. Remus is running 15% off everything until June in the US with the code MTTS18.

No, not really. I've driven straight for hours at highway speeds with it open. ASD is louder in sport under those circumstances than the exhaust.

It does if you are on an interstate and cruising in eco mode, or least ours does. Another excellent reason to stay off them, the interstate highways, that is. The only reason we ever use them is to avoid traffic issues in the larger cities we pass through on our route to or from somewhere that has good twisties! However, it is the most fuel efficient setting if you stay below 60 mph, which is impossible in a JCW! It turns the drive into a boring, droning, no fun
experience. My cartographer, aka, my wife uses the ipad, paper maps, and we generally take backroads for the majority of our trips! I am surely a lucky guy!
