Dinan Refurbished Program

Dinan sells refurbished Sport and Elite units at what they refer to
as a substantially lower price than the new ones. Asked about
them for my 2018 JCW Convertible but there aren't any, nor will
there be any in the future for the car. Didn't get into all the other
details but I was told that the only way to get that 4 year guarantee
is to purchase new units. I asked him to give me a 'heads up' if they
ever have a 'Black Friday' type sale since Winter is coming and I can
wait until next year. I don't drive my convertible much in the Winter
but would love to 'go into Spring' with the Elite, that's for sure.

It would have to be a very substantial price reduction without the warranty since that's the main selling point of that unit.

I know The Elite has a higher degree of tuning than The Sport,
but not so much in additional hp and tq. Without the long warranty
you're better off getting The Sport. I don't believe the regular price
of The Elite is excessive by any means but if it was to come down in
a sale, that would be ideal. As you know, any of the other 'high power
output' tunes available will require a long list of additions to handle that
leap in power.....and that translates into 'mucho dinero'........ and no
lengthy warranty to boot!

You have to remember though that their warranty run concurrently with the Mini factory warranty. When the Mini warranty runs out so does the Dinan warranty. That's why I said it sounds like a good deal if you have a new car. Not so much if you're nearing the end of you OEM warranty period.

What you say is true. Three years comes out to about $200
a year for the warranty staying active until your fourth year
is up. Two years left, equates to $300 per year which isn't
too bad. In fact, if you're selling the car with one year left,
a prospective new owner would still have some protection
since the Dinan Elite Warranty will be transferred to the new
owner. Might be worth a couple of hundred bucks being added
to your selling price and make the car stand out from other
JCW Mini Cars.

Add ons and mods have little to no effect on resale unless you find someone that's looking for a car with those particular additions. Then you might see a better price. That's why most people strip the mods and sell them separately when they sell or trade. In my case, I have no idea how much I've sunk into this car, but I know I'll never get anything close to what I have in it. At 70 I'm going to just enjoy this one and not worry about buying a new one because then I'd just have to start all over again. When I traded my R56 on this one I lost my butt and regretted trading for about six months, because I had spent several years getting it set up the way I wanted it. It all boils down to what you can justify to yourself. For myself, if I think on it long enough I'll find a way to convince myself that I gotta have it! YMMV

DINAN ran a black Friday sale last year , I suspect they will do the same this year. Id try ECS or similar as im pretty sire Dinan will offer a special in the next few days. Heck, maybe call them up and see if they will give you a discount in advance of black friday

when The Elite goes on sale.

The reason they sometimes have a fire sale on them is people decide to ditch them for an ECU tune after they buy it. The guy who did my tune said he has people who'd bought the JB+ and want to upgrade to the tune and ditch the clipon unit. He doesn't mess with reselling them. And the tune only costs $500 which is about the same as a box right?

clearly this thread is about the Dinan stuff and not a manic or any other flash. want a flash, get a flash , want a Dinan get a dinan but don't push or hijack a thread that isn't about a flash.

For example, if you buy the Dinan Elite during the last year of your original MINI factory warranty period, damage to car parts determined by Dinan to be caused by the Dinan Elite is covered ONLY until the last day of the MINI original factory warranty, and, the Elite unit warranty does not continue for 4 full years from date of Dinan purchase. It's 2 years from date of Dinan purchase if your car's original factory warranty expires.

The large print giveth and the small print taketh away.

correct- for me if I was say near the end of a warranty, last year or so I would probably opt for the sport unit rather than the elite. Ive had both (elite now) since my car still has 3+ years left on the warranty

Curious about the install. Is it being done at a Dinan approved
shop and if so, how much? Also, with regard to the warranty, I
was leaning toward an 'approved' shop so that if a problem
developed in the car, and Dinan's examination location determined
a faulty install, how can it be disputed so as to keep the warranty
in force? My car's a 2018 so we are talking about close to the 4 years
of maximum warranty period Dinan offers.

Its 3 plugs, and some velcro, and zip ties.

You really can't mess up the install, as long as you keep wires clear of fans, and turbo.

You want to buy my Sport? Used once, it was a replacement from Dinan, and only installed it to see if it worked!!
