Just scored an 06 JCW
Hi Gang,
I just purchased an 06 JCW wih chrono package. I just bought it today and must travel fron south Oregon to northern Calif. Still it is exactly what I was looking for. Even my 05 has the chrono package and the JCW needed to have that also, for me. It is the hot weather option one, which is needed in Southern Oregon. Thanks |

Good luck on your trip home! It has limited slip, sports suspension settings plus, light package and a bunch more. I got it at the auction for a steal of a deal, as it was presented as just an 06 S, there were only a few buyers, as dealers are not wanting to add inventory, before inventory taxes and the buyers there wanted Dodge, Ford and Chevy trucks. The planets were in alignment for this one! My brief look over showed a few problems: The AC is not working, which is usually not a big issue for me. The emergency brake did not want to release, when I tried to back up. I will go through the brakes anyway. It has a rear runflat tire flat, I aired it up, but I am guessing it needs fixing or replacing. The passenger side headlight washer is missing, but I have an extra one here. ( I buy and sell Minis) I am sure there are other things, as many people just let the small stuff ride, not me. The interior is perfect, the wheels good. The tires will be replaced this spring. there is four or so, soft door dings on the right quarter, that I will need to look into. The engine has a new coil on it and it looks like some cheap knock off brand... it will need to go! In a few days, I will have a plan to get everything done. Oh, the other bad thing: when they took it off the truck for the auction, they damaged the exhaust flex piece and I am sure that will be a pain to resolve! Thanks |
Nice find. Al kinds of rare, cordoba shift knob and boot, e brake handle and boot. Seats and Paino black trim with the MINI 7 black dash..... wow great job.

I went and picked it up on 1/5/17 and have it home now. It needs a few fixes, but this car is sound! I wish it was not so cold right now, because I have so much snow to remove, just to get it into my shop! I guess I am going to send my beloved 05 S down the road. It now has 160K miles on it, but shows no signs of any problems. |
Congrats, that is an odd and rare packaged car. Those tan leather sport seats were rare as they didn't offer them long. Then not many people ordered the chrono pack, but to have the black piano dash on top of those is even more rare. Wonder if it really came from the factory like that?

On the AC, check the low speed fan as if it is not running when you engage the AC the resistor may be blow. There is a sticky on the R53 side on how to correct for pennies on the dollar in lieu of putting a new fan on. If the fan is working then next item to check is the AC pulley coil.
Nice options, do some maintenance and then get the smiles that a JCW with LSD produces. A drug free rush. |

I have done a few magnets by removing the bottom mount and prying the engine back at the bottom. It is tight but doable. I have not had to deal with fan control, but with your help, I think I will get it right. Thanks |

Hi Gang,
I got the car up in the air and discovered what the exhaust leak was all about. I feel, in an atemp to get the car through smog in California, they removed the header and pu in a second hand header with a different cat. The old used header did not mate up to the JCW stainless exhaust well and when it was tightened, it broke the lower end of the cat off. It was completely broken off. I will need to get a new header with cat, to replace the junk thing that was installed in it. Does anyone have a feeling, what header pipe would be my best bet? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. The tires are worn out. It has 215/45 ZR 17 size. Anyone have an idea of a good grippy road tire to use for summer driving? Again, and suggestions are appreciated in advance. The brakes are good, but the E brake needs some work to make it viable and reliable. I have changed the ignition wires with a set of blue NGK wires and I am waiting for the new NGK plugs to arrive. I have replaced the coil with a factory new OEM one. What other things beside fluids and filters, do you think I should be looking at? The clutch hydraulics look like they have been replaced and the transmission also looks like it has been off, making me think the clutch has been changed. Time will tell on that. (131K miles) The axle bearings feel tight and smooth, so at this point I will let them ride. The camber on the right rear wheel, looks like it is three degrees and not the one degree it should be and the left rear looks closer to the one and a half degrees. I need better contact with the road back there. The fronts look good. The supercharger has definitely been changed and very recently, as it looks new all over. I will work on the AC, after I get it running the way I want it to. I think it needs a Sprint throttle controller, or whatever you think is better, so that it rides off from the stop better. What am I not thinking about? Remember I am an old fart and brain dead these days! Is the current header and cat a factory one? They factory ones tend to fail and break at the pre cat joint so maybe this was the case. As far as I know, all 1st gen MINI's used the same header/cat assembly except for the Aisin transmission S models. The motor sits slightly closer in the auto's and has a different part number for the header. Not sure about the CVT's, though.
As far as what to check, maybe the belt tensioner, crank pulley and seal, passenger motor mount, coolant tank, thermostat gasket, and the chain tensioner? |

I have identified the possible cause of the header failure. It looks like the passenger side motor mount has leaked out the oil and may be thrashing around on acceleration.
Which one do you recomend to replace it with? Thanks in advance. |
For the smoothest ride, the OEM mount is the best, but be prepared to change it in the future as they don't last as long. One of the best mounts, but expensive and with a little more vibration, is the Vibra-Technics mount.

Not sure if it's still available since they might have replaced it with a V-T styled clone for $300. I think it used to be about $150.
