Compact Spare for F56 JCW.....anyone found one yet?

Hi

2015 F56 JCW with 17" black Track wheels , dynamic dampners.

1.Not a fan of run flat tires....
2. Travel to areas with NO cell coverage so AAA and Mini Roadside service not always a option....
3. Looking for a compact Spare or full size spare that can be user on front or rear to carry on long trips like MTTS2016 (crosscountry)
4. Already carry Mini tire kit ( Air pump and Filler) and a tire repair kit.....

any options for spare wheel and tire ( prefer not buying a Mini Rim - $$$$)

Those steel rims are pretty cheap. But you can get the MINI spare that comes with the 3-cylinder, and there's a cover someone makes for it.

Scratch that, the compact spare wont work with the big brakes. Oh, I'm not sure. It says the wheel can go on the rear, and the good wheel on the front. Maybe ECS can clarify. It says on RealOEM that it wont work with the JCW retrofit brake kit, but maybe that is only the front?

I guess not for the JCW [or which brakes do you have?] from Detroit Tuned website:
"will fit over most front brakes that the MINI has, but will fit over ALL REAR brakes on the MINI UNLESS you have the Sport Brakes, M MSort Brakes or JCW Sport Brake option (brembo kit)"

Well, Detroit Tuned has an adapter for the 4-bolt wheels so the big brakes can be used with the spare, I wonder if they would make them for the 5-bolt?

The emergency rim, but where is the tire?

15" steel rim, has the same warning as the Emergency rim about JCW brakes.

Does anyone know if the 15" steel rims that ECS tuning has would fit over stock front F56 brakes?

I believe they will fit over the back brakes only. if you get a flat in the front.....I'm sure you can figure it out.:-)

Really? I know they'll fit on the F56 Cooper front brakes as Justas can be had with 15" wheels. But was hoping they'd fit on a F56 Cooper S cause I have an existing set of 175/65R15 winter tires that are fairly new.

The believe the steel wheel will fit front on the " Cooper " and rear , but will only fit the rear on the Cooper S . So if you get a flat on a Cooper S on the front, you will have to swap the wheel from the rear and then set the spare steelie on the rear.

Will it fit on the floor of the trunk? What is the outside diameter of the tire? Thanks.

It is about 22" across so it will not sit flat in the trunk but can sit at a angle if leaned against the back of the back seats.

Like any F56, if the flat occurs on the front tire, you move the rear to the front, and install the spare to the rear.

EXCEPT FOR BIG BRAKE KIT WONT WORK.

On a JCW (or any MINI with the big brake kit), you cannot use a compact spare on the front, as it will not clear the brakes. You would need to jack up one side of the car, put the rear wheel on the front, and then put the spare on the rear. Yes, it’s extra work, but that’s how it works.

That makes too much sense! Extra work, but so much better than waiting for roadside assistance! Thank you both!

Yep, with any of the JCW Brake cars you need a spacer to make it even fit on the back!
