Anyone know what is different when using launch control?

If I use launch control, the car chirps tires a little bit on launch and barks them hard into second gear while pulling really hard. If I don't use launch control, still with the traction control off, I don't seem to get the same acceleration nor tire spin. I'd understand not at launch due to RPM's not being as high, but when it comes to shifting into second, I would have thought I'd be spinning tires like when I use launch control. Does anyone know if boost is raised or anything if you use launch control versus just flooring it? It is quite fun and really shows the power and the constant pull as the car goes through the gears from a stop light. I was wondering if the new JCW is like the former Mazda speed 3, that had something like 260 hp, that only gave you full power after you were already rolling, and not at launch.

I have tried it and was not impressed, therefore why put the stress on the system? It is not a fuelie dragster.
