What do you have different that makes you think you will beat him in the quarter and through the twisties?

Don't think I've ever heard anyone say that about another Mini before

>>So How many of you think the JCW kit is worth the money? It seems like thousands and thousands of dollars for a warranty? Someone who know how to work on his own car can go just as fast or faster for under a grand.

It may be better performance may be had with other mods. But I gotta say, this is how the car was supposed to be in the first place; I LOVE it! Whenever I'm driving down the highway and need to switch from "lemming" mode to "drive-like-you-stole-it" mode, I always have plenty of performance. It's incredibly smooth, and it has just enough rumble in the tail pipe for me (which isn't much). That and the warrantee is still good... yes, it's worth the money.

Hey Dave,
Be very carefull when making reference to "twisties". You may be tracked by the NAM Police for making reference to your activities which may or may not be "off road". LOL .....Dave let me know when you go so I can watch. See you in town bro.

It’s difficult to not jump into this bickering - - but I’ll put a rubber band around my typing fingers.

Most of you guys sound like a bunch of 13 year old boys all shouting, “Mine’s bigger than yours!”

Only bad if they are presented as fact. You will note that I did not do so.

This article is a pretty decent read, straight from the horse's mouth as it were.

I agree totally. For those of us who do not have a shop that they trust with their ride or not willing to risk pulley installs by themselves. The JCW kit is a great option. Your modded car may as fast or even faster than Greta but Greta is my baby as she is even sweeter after the JCW makeover and She ROCKS. Just my 2 cents. Drive on.

And no Koolmini, the set does not come with a reduced pulley as I originally mentioned.
Check out the video posted on the JCW website. The announcer clearly states it has a "higher charger speed due the smaller pulley ratio and of course it's a more powerful unit with new coated abrasive rotors."

http://www.johncooper-mini.com/video...ngkit_sure.wmv This is the high-res video (5mb)

No hiding or misinformation there.

just for your info. According to Tony Franks, JCW Chief Engineer, The supercharger for 05 is from Iysolm, and in the works kit, it will have a smaller pulley and "different internals" but he didn't say what was different.

JCW, boiled down to this: Mods with warranty and the ability to finance the extra hp. Also not having to chase down all the different pieces and put them in.

Sure you can get it cheaper by doing it on your own. But with horsepower increases longevity decreases. So in the long run will see how much cheaper the non-JCW way is.

As for the JCW sucking? well I can't really complain, it fast and fun. It does suck one thing--premium gas and made my rigth foot very heavy.

Jcw

Does JCW suck? Well, it is the highest-performance package available from Mini. It's premium priced, sure, but what the heck isn't that is worth owning?

Also, JCW cars will also command a premium when you sell them, so you'll capture a chunk of that excess cost back when/if you sell.

Plus you keep the warranty and get to drive a very well-integrated, very fast Mini. Doesn't sound too bad to me.

Everyone's input is appreciated....however the level of intellect demonstrated by this type of response is worth little. Please try to stick to the topic without lowering yourself to useless derogatory commentary.

Back on topic - There seems to be a lot of unsubstantiated rumors running through this thread, but check with the source, MINI and JCW......the JCW MINI comes with the 13.8 reduction.

I have enjoyed my JCW package from day 1. Several people who have driven it, that also have modded MINI's, have noted that the power band is much smoother and JCW certianly makes the car a more complete package. I'm happy as pie with mine !!!

No, it does not suck. It blows!

A very fast mini? Faster than stock but slower than just about any other pulley based mod package. All that for up to a $5k premium! "Very" is very relative.

"Well integrated"....no way. The thought of adding power without any attempt to improve the suspension is irresponsible on Mini's part and invites product liability troubles. JCW owners who don't follow with handling mods are exactly the group you don't want to give more power to.

So, show Mini you know what they should be doing, wait a while for the aero kit and put the money toward some tires, wheels, springs bars and shocks. Then you will have a well integrated and balanced JCW that will really be very fast.
