Factory R53 JCWs produced? Sold in US?
I've been searching for a while trying to find how many factory JCWs were produced in 2006, specifically how many sold in the US... Anyone have an idea or know where this might be found?
I know there were 415 GPs sold in the US in 2006, out of 2000 total. Wondering how the regular JCW numbers stack up...

Doubt it was tracked...folks sometimes try to equate the gen2 jcw with gen1 stuff...but it was very different when John Cooper was a independent company...it was after mini bought it, and bought it and made many more options available as factory bits things started to change...
Vin # of jcw on gen1 was the same...
Jcw was simply a kit....
Even a 2006 s could still have the jcw kit installed by the dealer if I recall right...
The factory option did get you a lower price for the options...BUT the aero kit was slightly different...and if I recall, not well liked.

That's a loaded question. Technically, there are Zero factory JCWs in 2006. That is because it was a kit that was installed at the dealership. As stated by Zippy, this is when BMW did not own JCW.
The first factory JCW for the US was MY 2009. In between, it was the kit being installed at manufacture time.

Just to be clear...
You could get the JCW KIT factory installed...was sold at a bit of a discount..effectively getting you the BBK for free if I recall...but it was just an OPTION to check...not a separate VIN #.
If you go to the older stories on Motoringfile.com, all the info should be there!!

Ok, so as mentioned here:
http://www.motoringfile.com/2011/12/...06-jcw-review/
in 2006 the JCW kit was available as an option installed at the factory (an option, not a distinct model or anything... would also have been available for install at the dealer). I had my VIN run and it showed options of "John Cooper Works Kit" and a separate line for "Limited Slip Differential". The JCW suspension was yet another option, one my car did not have. So I have JCW airbox, catback, brake kit, aero, badges... but a regular "sport" suspension. Car did not have the original JCW paper certificate unfortunately.
Now what I'm trying to find out is how many JCW "options" were ordered in the US in 2006, if that was tracked, but it looks like that's like trying to find how many harman kardon stereo packages, or chrono gauges, etc... prob not gonna happen. Though I just thought to check the JCW kit # in the engine bay... yeah I'll have to do that in the morning.

I am the original owner of a 2006 JCW -- that was the first year they offered it as a factory-installed option as was noted above. To get the JCW kit, you had to order the Sport Package and LSD (required options).
The factory kit came with the brakes, JCW head, CAI, larger injectors, pulley, different plugs, and various badges/certificates (assuming I remember everything right). Suspension and body kit was still stock, although they offered a JCW suspension kit (springs + struts) as a separate option.

The JCW Package (JCW Engine Tuning Kit, JCW Sport Brakes and LSD) cost $6300 but required you to option the Sport Package for another $1400.
Not such a bargain when you consider other markets offered the package with 16" R94 wheels.
My 2002 MCS has JCW Kit #616 installed July 2003 and upgraded to 210 bhp in November 2004.

I have a 2006 car which I think is a factory JCW, as the option list includes "S3ALA JCW Kit". No aero kit or jcw suspension, but with jcw brakes and lsd. Mine is #12325 from April 2006, originally sold in Germany, now in Finland...
There was also an R50 JCW... don't know if those were sold in the US.

There was a JCW Tuning Kit and a JCW Sound Kit for the R50. Very few of the former made it to the US ...
