Is this a good deal on JCW Tuning Kit?

I have a 2012 MCS that I love, but I want to do the JCW tuning kit for a little more umph. I am moving to Northern Virginia in December so I called Mini of Sterling and Mini of Alexandria to get some quotes. Here is what they told me on the phone:

MINI of Sterling.
Parts- $2606 + tax
Installation- Didn't even ask because the person I spoke to was not the friendliest.

MINI of Alexandria
Parts- $2606 at first but then $2084 after pointing out it was $2120 on MINIUSA (Spoke to Larry and he was very friendly)
Installation- $510 at first but then $440 when asked if they can do better. (Service guy was also very friendly)
Total- $2524 + tax

So, is this a good deal? What did you pay? I was hoping to get it for around $2200 out the door.

That's a good deal for the N18 motor. The $2200 price was more inline for the N14 motor but now they change the exhaust manifold in the JCW kit so it add more parts and more labor.

I know of a dealer that has it right on their website that they will do a n18 for $3,999.99 and people are plaything that, they did 2 last week.

That's a fair price for the kit but a great price for the install - I would bet that they haven't done an N18 install. Get it in writing! I had the JCW engine kit installed on my 2011, and my dealer quoted similar pricing. When they discovered that the N18 kit requires exchanging the exhaust manifold, they pursued it with MINI USA because absolutely no published info (including MINI USA website) mentioned the revised installation requirements for the N18 motor (The shop time went from 3 or 4 hours to something more like 10). Even when MINI USA was not any help, my dealer stood by their original quote for the install.

I have been looking into this also. Haven't talked to the dealership yet though their website has it for $2,606 for parts or $2,933 installed.

However, Way has the kit for $1899
http://www.waymotorworks.com/jcw-joh...-for-2011.html

I was reading the installation instructions for the N14 kit and while the US version of that kit didn't replace the exhaust manifold, the European version did. And the installation with the replacement manifold is 4 hours:
http://motoringfile.com/howto/JCW_De...talled_Kit.pdf
which would suggest $440 for labor is about right.

Does anyone know what is the benefit of the upgraded manifold.

I got the JCW Kit for almost 3 and half years now and pretty happy with it.

No big problems.. but the JCW Kit does consume a bit more oil.

Thanks for all the input. So, this sounds like a good deal then. The wife gave me the green light to do it as a birthday present. Now I just have to talk her into letting me do it before my birthday!

@gfiad2. Don't know if you pulled the trigger yet but Mini of Monrovia has the kit listed at a little over $1600.
