Thinking of installing JCW on my MCS - 03 Any Ideas?

MCS - 03 Tritech Supercharged 1.6L - After 90,000 glorious miles, I am exploring installing the 210 hp JCW. Any ideas? I did get a quote from a reputable dealer to install the kit for $6,200 (Parts and labor).

Anyone out there done the same and were you happy with the decision?

Don't waste your money. With that kind of money the aftermarket tuners can do better all around.

^ +1 I'm above the JCW hp and for a fraction of the cost. I got all my parts used except for the exhaust. Keep an eye on the marketplace here and save some green

When I did JCW back in January 2004 (http://www.gbmini.net/wp/jcw_upgrade/) I paid about that ... I know eventually the few kits remaining were significantly price reduced. I think you are being cheated if the dealer charges that much.

Also, the JCW was a sensible choice when your car was in warranty - but surely it can't be now, so a good aftermarket choice is surely better.

Just stay clear of the turbocharger add-on!

Thanks Braminator for the web references! I will do further homework on this.

Agreed. I have a JCW and I know you could do better for less money.

Do a little research at Mini Madness, Alta, Way Motor Works and others and I'm sure you can put a package together that is better than the JCW.

I have a Madness 15% pulley for sale. PM me.

I also have an H&R rear sway bar...

GBMINI: The dealer is offering a two year warranty on the JCW, but as Braminator indicated above there are aftermarket tuners that can do better. I need to do more research!

Sprintex, Big Valve Head, Cam, Full Exhaust, JCW Fuel Injectors, ECU Tune = Permagrin.

Edit: call WAY @ waymotorworks.com . For 6k he'll send you a newly rebuilt engine with more power than the JCW. http://www.waymotorworks.com/john-co...53-engine.html

GBMINI, Your website was very informative, thanks for capturing the transformation and installation of the JCW kit.

Id say, sell your car, and go BUY a JCW, THEN soup it up! *(thats what i did anyway, except the JCW was my first mini).

Otherwise, the JCW package is so much bc they port the head on the engine, among other things. So, ya, you can spend a few less $$ and get up to / near a JCW tune, but its more fun to START there and go up!
