How to tell a JCW?
How to tell a JCW?
Hi Everybody.
Apart from the usual visible stuff like the badges, the brake calipers, the stainless steel exhaust and JCW tips, how can we tell if the engine has the jcw kit? I know that there is the kit number badge but if i want to tell the difference between a jcw head and a regular one...or the supercharger..or the injectors..how can i visually tell if they are jcw or not.
I wanna know more about the differences. and not just the obvious ones..
THx

how to tell real JCW
I would assume that only the engine modded versions have the JCW badges on the lower part of the front grill. I know that when I had my engine upgraded with the upgrade kit (210hp) they gave me both front and rear badges.
It is difficult to verify all of the JCW changes externally other than the brake and exhaust changes. Here are some other visual clues:
- JCW air box.
- Smaller supercharger pulley but a little hard to see the size different (12%).
- Different intercooler cover.
- The head will look the same.
- The injectors will look the same.
- There is a certification card (mine is with the owners manual).

+1
anyone can order a pair of badges and tack 'em on...altho at whatever ridiculous price they're charging, i doubt anyone really does
so...tell tale sign is badges, intercooler, plague in engine bay, etc. not all cars have the brakes, as only '06+ factory-installed cars have 'em. a lot of people also install the intake only. the 380cc injector is light blue in color

Would a VIN check actually show a JCW installation if it was done by a dealership after delivery? I do not think so. What is someone purchased the JCW parts and installed them or had them installed by a mechanic?
Maybe if the car owner kept their original sticker. I got that when I purchased mine. (JCW Tuning Kit with LSD, sport brakes and exhaust)
A dealer can use a VIN to check (via computer) whether a MCS has the factory JCW Package or dealer installed JCW Engine Tuning Kit. There is nothing in the VIN itself which indicates this. Only the GP and 2nd Gen Works models have a VIN (positions 4-6) distinquishing it from a MCS.

- original S injector - white (200HP Works - prefacelift has them also)
- JCW injector - blue (only facelift 210HP version)
