I am about to take delivery of my MCS (IB, Lapis and anthracite interior, 3 packages, Nav system, HK sound, auto dipping mirror and rainsensing wipers, chrome mirror caps, aux input) and I had intended to get the JCW package installed. My dealer has informed me that it is nationally backordered. Anyone getting the same information?

Chief_Charlie 08-10-2003 09:47 AM

Sounds accurate. I have one on order through Classic Mini, Mentor Ohio; and BMW just gave them the "release date" of September 8, 2003 for their JCW Kits. Be patient.

mightyMiniz 08-10-2003 05:38 PM

In My Honest Opinion... you guys should cancel your JCW order's and wait ....

It will be worth the wait....

kbseto 08-10-2003 06:00 PM

mightyminiz...could you please elaborate a bit more on why it's worth the wait. i have a mcs coming in late sept/oct and am considering the jcw. is it because dinan might have something comparable coming out end of this year? or maybe the jcw itself may undergo some new changes? supposedly, there will be only 1500 jcw kits sent to the usa, so time appears to be a factor for this particular mod.

mightyMiniz 08-10-2003 06:07 PM

NO NO NO Dinan is not doing anything... JCW is not doing anything... It is another company....

I cannot give complete details other than it is an M7 brand, and unlike the INCOMPLETEness of the JCW... the M7 will be a complete package... We saw it today...Spoke with M7 all day and are in AWE.

2minis 08-10-2003 06:11 PM

JCW = $135 per one hp.
No brake upgrade. Why bother?
I'm pushing 185hp for around $600.

mightyMiniz 08-10-2003 06:24 PM

And another thing....

The M7 MCS is pushing 250hp right now... 471ftlb at the wheels I believe. and they have not installed their Supercharger upgrade yet....!

Hey welcome back Mike. Totally agree with your statement. JCW is a big rip off and not worth the HP it gives you. I'm pushing almost 200hp and have just over 1K.

Jims5543 08-10-2003 07:22 PM

Will this M7 Kit be covered under the warranty like the JCW??

I am about to order the JCW and now you have me hesitating.

mightyMiniz 08-10-2003 07:30 PM

you will have to watch the M7 site for complete details...

Maybe you got the numbers wrong????

MINISPIDER 08-10-2003 08:05 PM

remember....a car equipped with the JCW kit, will be a collectors item years from now,and the resale value much higher than a regular MCS.

Chitown_COOP 08-10-2003 08:08 PM

>>you will have to watch the M7 site for complete details...

And that site would be........?

dandp 08-10-2003 08:37 PM

The Bentley Continental GT has 479 lbs. of torque , 552 HP...then again, it's a 6 liter 12...

minicoopermike 08-10-2003 08:37 PM

My dealer also says the JCW kit is 3 to 4 months backordered in the USA. They appear to be releasing them very slowly, only 1 or 2 every so often. I've also heard there will be a limited number available (approx 1500). My dealer has only installed 1 kit to date

I do not think these numbers are wrong...

keep your eye on m7speed.com

rfibanez 08-10-2003 10:25 PM

Yes watch out for M7, they have a lot of cool stuff comming out...

miniblues 08-10-2003 11:25 PM

M7.....471 ft lbs of torque...I don't think so, laugh !

Hopefully there will be some actual performance numbers and not just seat of the pants this car is a screamer, laugh !

mightyMiniz 08-10-2003 11:32 PM

Love the laughter... We saw it today.... it is amazing

d-mini-ero 08-11-2003 03:02 AM

IMHO.....All ya really need is:
pulley, ecu upgrade, intake & exhaust
using round numbers=400+700+250+650=$2000= one rocket
it's been stated many different ways ...on many different threads....

just do it

Peace,
D

MGear 08-11-2003 03:38 AM

I certainly hope the m7 upgrade is more impressive than their website.

Mini_Street_Racer 08-11-2003 03:41 AM

>>How could it possibly have 471lbs of torque at the wheels (I'm not sure if ANY production car has that)? That would be about 530lbs of torque at the crank. Then it would be impossible to have that much torque and only a MEASLY 250HP.
>>
>>Maybe you got the numbers wrong????

yeah, maybe he got it wrong. Doug does wears glasses and all. maybe you should take a look just to be sure.

Mini_Street_Racer 08-11-2003 03:49 AM

...BTW, had to black out the company name for a while, not 'til M7's official release date...soory

Davbret 08-11-2003 06:02 AM

On that type of dyno you need to divide the torque number by the number of driven wheels. So in this case, the true before/after numbers are:

BEFORE
151.9 hp
131.1 tq

AFTER
224.0 hp
234.9 tq

-Limits to torque: the Mini's OE drivetrain, clutch, tranny could not stand up to the long-term abuse of super high torque mods (240lbs or there about is a realistic ceiling.)
-Front wheel drive cars & huge power: There is a point beyond which any front wheel drive car will become a freakish, un-predictable & awkward driving experience.
-The JCW kit Kicks' Ass : Yes it cost a pretty penny but if you have the funds, want it & can find one, GO FOR IT! (Some self-appointed Mini Pundants are full of sour-grapes, have no money to speak of & have very little first-hand driving experience. Just read the real automotive press to get a picture of the performance )
-JCW kits perform very well IF the break-in period has been achieved: After 3000 miles mine is a trip to drive hard: Excellent 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, top-end speeds & impressive specs measured w/ the newest GTECH Pro Competetion instrument done at a private air strip this last weekend (results forthcomimg.)
-Critics beware: JCW bashing is getting to be a big bore : Many of you are speaking from a weak experiential perspective. You can't critique something you have such limited exposure to (IE: a quick spin at the dealers in a new JCW car w/ OE tire/wheels/intakes etc. does not constitute a knowledge/experience base. No scientist would consider this "valid".)
-Nor is financial pragmatigism a sound basis for automotive criticism: Should the Corvette Z6 be compared w/ the newest Porsche 911's? If so, dollars per HP would be the gold standard by which we measured such things!
-BOTOM LINE: Please don't tell me what I should or should not do/have/mod on my car. Let people make up their mind's & try to help by providing sound advice based on experience, research and well intentioned counsel!
