painting exhaust tips

I read about this a few times. Other then Powder coating what process should I take for painting my exhaust tips.

Clearly I'll need some high temp flat or matte paint. (which one in this case? and which brand?)

I'll probobly want to sand a few times in between coats. Thinking maybe first coat, then sand with 400 then second coat then sand with 800 then third coat then done or maybe sand with 1400-1600 and do it again.

Secondly I need your opinions... should i do this?

Heres my bum as it is now

If you decide to do this, you'll want to rough up the tips' surface so the paint will adhere.

Should you do this? That is up for you to decide. Most people wouldn't.

If you're able to get them sand or bead blasted, that would be the way to do it before painting.

Any high temp or bar-b-que black paint will work fine. Run the car afterwards until the tips get hot, unless your able to bake them in an oven. The high temp paint cures better with heat.

I painted the mufflers black on my JCW exhaust, just sanded them, sprayed them, and let the exhaust heat do the rest. They still look great(and hidden).

BTW, I had my tips powder coated.

DUE TO THE HEAT, I CHOOSE TO HAVE MY COOPER WORKS TIPS JET COATED. THEY DID A GREAT JOB. CHECK THEM OUT:

That looks sweet! I like it. To date I had only seen Sid's car with black tips (custom, but still black)

I was thinking of doing this to the red JCW I have.

I sure did! But it takes at least 10 hours to check your car out.
After you get past all the go-fast parts and custom stuff, you're already at about the 5 hour mark. By the time you get to the back of the car, you can barely stand, it's getting dark, but it's cool... sweet! black exhaust tips too!

Me likey. I have the factory aero too...

I'm gonna do this. Just neet to carve out the time!

I still haven't installed my little black/ charcoal inserts from cooperflags (to replace the stock silver aero ones)

This is the car (the red one...next to my other MINI...the black one) that I am gonna do it, to. The black tips will work "booootiful" , as I too have the red/black vibe goin'
