Driving Lights Choose between oem and Hella ff200 chrome

Assuming I have the option of either of these two sets of driving lights @ lets say $300, which one is better? Is the oem Driving Light a good product or is the Hella far superior. Who makes the oem lights anyway? Thanks. Michael

I have never used the factory lights. I have read here on NAM a few times that the light output could be better. They do look good on the car and use factory parts.

I have seen FF200's on cars, and they look great. I have FF1000's on my car and I love them. Much bigger than "stock", but they work for me. A little work to install, but under $200 for everything and the light output is amazing. Makes my regular Xenons look like they are not even on!

If my wife decides she wants a set of lights on her MCS, I would put the FF200's on her car without a single hesitation.

Good luck!

Michael,
I think you know I went with the ff200's, but just in case heres a picture (like I'd mind)

My wife's car have the OEM, the one problem (if you can call it a problem) with the oem's is that you either have to stop and pull the covers off or leave them off when you expect to use them.

With the hella's they offer 3 different types of covers; the grilled ones on mine about, a solid white cover and a solid clear cover. I run with either the grilled or clear, so no problem wiring them without a separate switch.

If I had solid covers I'd need a switch to prevent melting/burn out issues.

That's not always 100% the case.
I got LaminX protective film for my factory lights. I got the yellow tinted film and it makes the light seem like daylight. I recently found (after 3+ years of active searching) grille covers for the factory lights that look just like the headlight grille covers from the old rally classic Minis.

Do you have a picture or better yet, the link? Love to pick up a set for the wife's car. TIA

I just happened to be wandering around eBay and ran across them. I was the only bidder.
I'll see if I can dig up the email from the guy I got them from and ask him where they came from.

I had the OEM driving lights and chrome FF200s as fogs.

Hellas are a quality lamp. FF200s ... you cannot go wrong for the price ... about $150 tops. However, the OEM driving lights are also very bright but not worth $400.
