I tried searching this and didn't come up with any definitive answer. Someone rearended my MINI a few weeks back (just a minor dent in the rear hatch) and while paint work is being done on the car, i decided to take the "de-chrome" approach. So onto my question...

I have removed the interior door panels, but can't seem to see exactly how to remove the exterior handles from the car. There appears to be one bolt/screw opposite the side that contains the locking mechanism and it looks as though it's square drive. Has anyone removed their handles and can you help me out? Thanks...

 

Well, I have and idea. I don't know how to take off the handles, but heres what you could do. Look around in the galleries for a MINI that has been "dechromed" and PM the owner! Hope that helps!!!

You need a 10mm open ended spanner for the leading edge of the handle and a 5mm allen key for the locking side of the handle, very fiddly to do, there is a hole in the inner door panel that the allen key can go through straight onto the bolt,
