If i were to spend the time to make up a custom bracket...i would definitely spend the extra time to quickly weld it rather than have a complicated bolting system. The MINI is worth it.

I dont really prefer one or the other, neither the unfinished look of bolts or nor the battering ram look or welding. They are both equally unpretty in my eyes. But since I dont have welding eqipment, my garage chose that one for me. I do admit that the welded version is sturdier, but that is not really a necessity for a piece such as this, it may even be overkill. You could 3M it on and accomplish the same thing if you really wanted (I know some have with no problems.)

Well some people do not have the option of welding something together! And welding aluminum isnt the simplist thing to do! To each there own!

good point....didnt he use steel though? Aluminium definitely is much harder to weld

well i got rid of mine completely and went to a custom grille i made now instead.

whats aluminum to weld to anyways? the hook is cast and the supports are steel.

I like to do things the right way the first time, even if it costs more money and takes more time.

the right way i see is to weld it together, since soemthing doesnt lookr ight about a few piees of metal bolted to a towhook.

even if you have to take it someplace to have it welded, its the right way to go it.

would you spray paint your car because you dont have a paint booth at your house?

Wow Rick, you are still going on about this. I am glad you are happy with yours, but the "right" way for you is just your opinion, doesnt make it better than anything else.

We are happy with our mounts, they dont look any different to us than yours (dont really think rough weld joints are any better looking than nuts and bolts.) Its apples and oranges and a temporary solution to be legal on the street for me. I am happy with my $15 solution, so is Garrett. Sure we could get one welded, but why would we spend the extra money when we already have it covered.

Were not talking about painting anything, its just a license plate.

Nice work MINITOR!

That is perfect for our @#&$*@& front-mounted washington plates (really, I'm not bitter), cheaper than the $50 setups, and allows you to still unbolt it all and have a working toe if in a pinch.
