Neon or LED Underbody kit
Has anyone put one on a mini ir attempted to? ive been looking at some and i'm not sure if i want to tackle another after having many problems putting a kit on my vette.
is there enought room under the front end somewhere to safely set a tube without interfering or melting the lexan? is there room in back around the muffler (MC, not S) ? were there any problems running the wires to the inside of the car? Thanks guys, -Rick Oh yeah, and for all you people that say they look ugly are are "rice", i think on many cars, if done right, it makes the car look mich nicer. |
Certain cars are not meant to have underlighting, the mini IMO is one of them.We usually see a relation with underlighting and fake Xeon's. Since the mini has real Xeon's, I would suggest not doing the underlighting.

I disagree with the previous post. I have thought about the very same thing... putting lights under the Mini. Since you can't drive with them on... they would look cool when parked or stopped. I wonder... is it legal to have them turned "on" when your at a stop light? Or would that be considered driving?
I know nothing about putting lights under a car... but I would certainly like to learn more! |

I disagree. Like many things, neons look bad if done badly, but can look good if tastefully installed.

in ohio its LEGAL to drive with neon on if they ARE NOT red, blue or amber.
i'm getting white, so i think i'll be fine. i just need some money and i need to find a nice kit to use. |
Now that's a COOL picture! I would have never though to light it up behind the grill  cool!

So does anybody know the law for California?
|
Thou shalt not add purely decorative, colored lighting to your automobile.
|
I wouldn't expect a post like that... not from Berkeley, CA
|
Just a note. LED "Running Lights" were used by local car clubs in Northern Japan to show membership. "Tuner" clubs all, I'm sure. The automotive equivalent of the jacket patch, or gang sign.
A few small ones, tastefully done, would be nice. YMMV. Cheers, Matthew Z. |
Maybe I'm just too old, but...
I agree:

But, opinions are like -------: everybody has one. -Pete |
Don't do it-- it's the wrong car.

Do it! Go Nuts! And then come and join us for Midnight on the Dragon next year!

Rick, if you like it, go ahead and do it! People are going to either love it or hate it. |
That's what a bunch of us in the AtlantaMINIs did. You guys see us at the overlook during the Midnight Run? GMINI got some great pics of us. I hope he posts them. He's really good with that camera.
The neons are just for fun. You can do like me and put them on the car for the Midnight on the Dragon and take them off later. |
i like them. i'm not just going to put them on the underside and have a blank space where the wheels are at, i found a set of curved neons that i can hide in the wheel well that makes a full uninterupted line of neon/LED light around the car. it looks awsome.....now i just need some money hehe.
anyone ever buy one of the kits off ebay for like 99.99? ive seen a few wireless ones that look kinda nice, i wont have to mount any switches anywhere then. any thoughts? |

I think that's funny considering that in europe they don't have side marker lights...but here in the states we do...LOL...basically meaning it comes with decorative lights :lol:

If I was ever to put a kit under my car it would be this one...yes it is expensive but, you have the option of just about any color in the visible light spectrum to choose from.

Guysdaman is referring to the ICELED system from the UK. Obviously it can be purchased from Oznium. I also have the contact info for the direct distributor here in the US. I looked into it thoroughly and they are without a doubt the best lighting systems in the world. But I doubt you want to spend a grand on an underbody kit.

Just say no!
|
.........and I thought neon lights were only used in cheap greek restaurants!
|
A Senator from North Dakota is sponsoring a bill legalizing underbody lights. It's seems a new National Safety Board study shows them to be good for safety! Yes, the neons are coming! I heard Mini USA is considering making them a standard feature in 2007, if legalized in the states.

Rick, if you like it, go ahead and do it! People are going to either love it or hate it. I think most people will agree that the following: - fake XENONS - those little lights on the hood - underbody lighting - useless wings / spoilers are usually found on the same type of cars, with the same type of owners. It's the truth, accept it. |
