Changing Red and Orange Bumper Lights...

Has anyone changed the lights on the bumper corners with a smoked or clear lens and can help explain how to change them? It seems the inner fender cover may need to come off for these- not sure.
Fender, light, reflector, bumper things? Anyone?:sly:

Great question, I would love to know where to find some nice smoked replacement lenses too!!! Someone reply, or better yet, design some so I can buy them!! They would really clean up the look of the MINI from the sides!! Peace!!

Ebay!

There are a few different full-lens replacement sets on ebay (where else! ) and they come in smoked and clear. I suppose you could just use the smoke-colored film to cover them too, but that just seems a bit dodgy.

i just removed them, painted them textured black, pulled the bulbs and called it a day.

i dont care if i have lighted side markers or not.

I got the tinted ones but did change the bulbs as the light looked bright to me.

I put red in teh back and amber up front.
Ebay was the place of purchase.
It was a bit of a pain and did find that the "stalks" on the new lenses were a bit short so I had to ue different "plastic stud nuts"
4 cents each from the hardware store

So, how do you get to those? The bottoms seem to not be anchored, but the top of the lens, where the bulb goes into the "stalk", is attatched to behind the inside fender cover. Do I just take out the inside fender cover? Is there anything to watch for or handle gently there?

Pardon my questions, but I'm not much of a mechanic, yet.

I managed to hook up the fronts this past weekend- The back ones, though, look a bit trickier. I may have to take the rear wheel off to get enough angle to undo some screws and get some leverage to get to them.

Here's how to do the fronts:
Open the hood, and unscrew the bumper fender flare from the top of the bumper cover. From there, you should be able to see the posts from the back. they have self tapping nuts that you can unscrew with a pair of pliers with about 3-4 twists. Push the whole light out from the back once the nuts are removed, the twist the light on the stalk 1/4 to disconnect the bulb assembly. Attatch to the new light/reflector then push into place. Twist on the self tapping nuts, replace the top bumper flare screw and you're done.

Try Laminx tinted covers. They are much easier to put on and they are cheap.
