i tinted mine a little while ago, i haven't had any tickets, but if you already have some issue with the fuzz, i wouldnt recommend you tint the tails.

Heres mine.

I have some thing different.. I got a set of 04 white tails and had them painted to match the flake in the astro black. I love them, but they are so hard to see braking during the day.

since these photos, I've swapped these painted lens on to my stock tail lights and you can see my brakes alot better. I need to get an updated photo

These were all that was available back in 02 and were from Mini Mania at about $ 100 for the 6 piece set which was quite the rip off but they were the only game in town at that time . The laminex program looks like a good way to go these days . As for legality the reason they are NOT legal , at least in Cali ,is based on the premise that if you were broken down on the road at night there would be very little warning to a upcoming car due to no reflectors returning the light from the oncoming cars headlamps. I have heard that if you were to attach a stick on type reflector you MAY be found legal but no one has ever told me how many reflectors of what the minimum square inch total of reflector needed might be .

Yup. I got pulled over by CHP yesterday for smoked tails. While they were at they gave me another fixit for having my front windows tinted 20% too. Good thing the tails are with the film and not painted.
Sucks though cause it looks sweet as.
The R56 tails are so bright it really is not a concern for normal driving, but I guess the reflector thing is the main problem.

So looks like I'll have to do it again once I get the fixit sorted.
