Dog proofing the rear cargo area

I would like to transport my dog behind the rear seats of my 2012 Mini Countryman, the problem is that it has two bucket seats with a gap between them instead of a bench seat and all the kits on the market seem to be designed for the bench seat option. I know my dog will squeeze through the gap and then proceed to squeeze though the gap between the front seats as well and all hell with break loose. Has anyone found a solution to this, it has to be something that bridges the gap between the two rear bucket seats.

I made some doggie jail bars with pvc pipe (the gray stuff so it doesn't look so bad). Make it a compression fit, use 90's on ends to avoid ripping headliner.
