Countryman All4 - Engine bay modifications

4 Attachment(s)
Did some trimming to the cowl. Plan is to use the area where the battery is once I relocate it to the rear of the car. I attempted to do a WRC style cowl. I also sealed the front of the hood area better.

Engine bay now

Before engine bay for reference

New front hood sealing

WRC engine bay :P

I still have a few things to do before the engine bay is done. The area where the battery is currently sitting is where I will most likely put the coolant tank. Maybe the OCC, if it fits too.

I need to:
Finish the final version of the CAI intake (w/heat shielding)
Relocate/replace OE coolant reservoir tank
Relocate the battery to the boot

I spy, with my eye, a lightweight battery made by Shorai.

Did a resistor mod today to the plugs that go into the PCV hoses. I did that to fit my custom CAI in there without having to worry about retaining those plugs.

Attachment 145626

1k ohm per plug. Secured out of the way.
Attachment 145627

CAI prototype I'll be finishing up soon to install.

Any updates? this looks nice!

One Question.

Whats the reasoning of doing that full north to south loop on the intake rather than just going from the left, down and right. If that makes any sense, it seems like a lot of extra material in there?

Thanks. No updates since, been busy with my businesses.

There's limited space since some stuff is in the way (hot side tube, overflow tank, engine, etc) and for whatever reason the MAF needs a bend before or after it so it doesn't read funky. full 3" tubing so it's not restricted. I do agree, it is a little more material than I'd like. Works well though and sounds great.

i really like that location for the air filter. glad i came across this.

Just a quick question since you've obviously done a lot of leg work, what size tubing did you need to connect to the maf?

The MAF needs 2.75".

My aluminum tubing is 3", so I used 2.75" to 3" couplers.

Awesome thanks, now to find out what the DoS input size is

If you own it, all you need to do is measure it.

If you don't I'd just stick with stock. Stock box can flow way more then stock turbo can handle and will do the same thing as the DoS, just without the extra cost. I want to say I read somewhere that the stock box can handle flow to support close to 300hp.

The only reason I am building my own is because I know I was going to a bigger turbo and I wanted my intake away from the back of the engine, where all the heat gets pushed at speed. Mine will eventually have a box around it to keep all the heat out.

I already have the intake, or the bulk of it, except the maf to filter silicon elbow, eventually I will go larger turbo

this summer is downpipe and intercooler

Oh nice. Easy peasy then! Post up pics when you're done.

The 3" downpipe from ATP is a pretty solid piece.

My current setup up. Installed ignition coils and spark plugs, cleaned up the catch can tubing,
put on some heat reflective wrap on the intake -- I want to do that for the cold side IC pipe
too -- cleaned up the engine bay, and installed a new filter.

I want to relocated the battery to the trunk, relocated the coolant reservoir (to where the
battery currently is), port the exhaust manifold and exhaust housing, and a few other minor
things before I put the 50mm turbo on...
