Replacing dash panels

Has anyone removed the two plastic dash panels? I'm referring to the panel on the secret compartment and the one behind the steering wheel.

I'm considering adding some saucier ones, either color coded (VO) or Union Jack panels.

Can't seem to figure how it is done.

The one behind the steering wheel just pries out carefully with a non-marking tool. Never done the one on the secret compartment.

hmm not a bad idea, maybe some red vinyl would look good on mines, xD :thumbsup:

Ali express has a ton of panels in different colors and patterns. They also sell the door trim that's likely gloss black on your car. I don't know of anyone who has actually done the work though.

I used a interior trim tool for the one behind the tac. The passenger one has 2 screws and has clips holding them. Its not too terribly difficult.

Does anyone have pics of a modified dash? Im thinking on doing something like this (see attached photoshopped pic)when I get mine. I did this to my BMW x135I and was easy to pop out and wrap as you can see in the link below how I did it.

Adding some colour on the dash just sooo needs doing. Too much black and grey in the world already. Please let us know if you find a source for a decent match to the Volcanic Orange paint.

get creative

Photoboi the blue looks like a winner

So has anyone done this yet? Outmotoring has some stick on options but not sure any of those will work for me. I'd like to do VO or pink of some sort in mine.

Looks amazing....I am very curious to see the final results.

Also gives me a few ideas for my F56....

I saw some stick on ones on AliExpress that a vendor had with many color options, including pink.

I did that carbon fibre 3M Dinoc on dash the panel on my R56. You can use a hair dryer and wrap compound curves. Easy if you are slightly handy.

I have the aluminum panels on mine. I like their look too much to cover them. I do plan to add some color to the interior, just not the dash panels.

spiney 10-27-2015 06:41 AM

I swapped my striped aluminium ones (and the door pulls) for English Oak a couple of months ago: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/HI...=w1170-h877-no

Like that. It's certainly a transformative change to any interior!

I wish I could get my hands on a set of the Fireworks trim panels or just something different than the Hazey Gray ones I have.

Thanks! It's a Roadster, and I wanted that old MG/Triumph/Healey wooden dash feel. Goes well with the chrome line interior.

Just out of interest. I have the fireworks dash on my JCW. It is pretty subtle.

Yeah, I've seen some pics, but I still think it looks better than what I've got now. It looks like you can order them from ECS Tuning. I may order them one day when I have some extra cash, but right now not a priority.

For anyone that has removed these panels, so you have a photo of what is behind the panels?
I was thinking of ordering a replacement set from the dealer or Real OEM, but I might just remove the panels and leave it exposed while I paint the panels and return them to the dash.

I didn't take any pictures while the dash was off. From memory it didn't look too bad on the driver's side. Without the panel the secret compartment is pretty flimsy, and I don't remember if it will close. I think you would be fine with no panels for a few days though, it doesn't expose anything dangerous.
