Official Mini Countryman (Base, S, All4) weight-loss thread. Tips, installs and more!
Hi all!
I big into functional performance for both street and track. I came from STIs, M3s and most recently a handling oriented street prep'd 69 Mustang. All had a lightweight base to make them handle and perform well. I love creating a very solid chassis, combined with a great suspension system.
By no means am I a racing veteran, I'm just a big fan of motorpsorts and love bringing exotic, functional ideas to the streets. Any and all input is well.
This is place we can share ideas, post what you've done, what you'd like to do, DIYs, and so on!
----------
I was able to get the 09 STI I had down to 3150 lbs, E46 M3 down to 2950 lbs, and 69 Mustang down to 3100 lbs.
Goal for the CM is to get it down to about 2950 to 3000 lbs with a 50/50 weight distribution. With OE dash, back seats, carpet and airbags still installed.
Short term (2-3 months) is 3150 lbs. MET!
New goal: 3080 lbs.
----------
Past work... For your pleasure.
STI:
Radio delete/middle vents
Most OE mounting locations, etc removed or replaced with lighter parts/FMIC
Scoopless CF hood
Catless DP, 200 cell cat in mid pipe, muffler delete/straight pipe back
CF seats
M3:
Custom welded upper subframe/strut tower brace
Lexan windows
Wiper Reservoir Relocated to trunk
Custom aluminum door cards
Rear seat delete
charcoal canister delete
10 lb battery
air/oil sep
Radio delete
custom floor mounts for CF seats
Suspension setup w/ CF hood and trunk (49/51 split; Intrax coilovers)
Supersprint catless stepped headers/resonated dual 2.5" mid pipe
69 Mustang:
Front coilovers/fog light delete/front lip
Lightweight front and rear FRP bumper
Insulation removal/AC delete
Happy modding!

Anyone seen anything like this for the CM?
http://www.mini2.com/forum/first-gen...ho-gauges.html
Seems neat to put the speedo right over the steering column, to potentially get rid of the big, heavy center dash speedometer.
Maybe hardcore for some... :D I'm just big on cutting weight wherever possible. I imagine that massive speedo is pretty heavy.

i ordered my cm all4 without a sunroof ...
the sunroof adds 80 kg (about 175 pounds) to the car weight!
also no nav, no connect, no hk stereo, no comfort access and no auto climate... all of these add weight
my oem 18" turbofan wheels weigh about 26 pounds each! aftermarket wheels should be lighter by 5-10 pounds each

Nice! I've never been a fan of sunroofs thats for sure. It's either too hot, or too cold it seems... haha. MINI did a pretty good job on all the basic OE parts, most of them are pretty light. but as we know.. every pound counts! lol
Today I deleted the roof rails and removed a few other small things, total drop was about 10 lbs today. Putting me at a total of about 40lbs off the car so far.
I'll be deleting the A/C soon, and putting in a lightweight heater element (I never use my A/C): http://www.minimania.com/part/24A189...All-Year-Minis
I looked on estore-central.com and it seems that the A/C heater system (OE) weighs in around 45 lbs, plus the 15lbs of insulation behind the dash. That will all be coming out, which should help me hit my short term goal of dropping 100 lbs off the car.
After that will probably be a full exhaust (w/tune), which should drop at least 30lbs.
I'm trying to find a sweet balance of performance, lightweight and a daily driver. so far so good! :D
