Custom speaker box set up recommendations? Audio people HELP!!
 

So, I am looking to build a custom box for my R56. I will be installing a rear seat delete, so space wont be a huge issue. I want the box to house my 12" sub and be ported. I also want to mount some speakers on the sides in separate enclosures. I was thinking about running 4 speakers total. I came up with a design that I thought might be suitable, and would like some critique from people who have experience in this field. I am no audio tech, so if my idea is trash let me know, and please provide me with another idea. Basically what I am trying to achieve is adding more speakers to accompany the stock system, in order to make up for the loudness that my sub puts out (1000 watts)

My questions are;
-Will my design work?
-Should I port the speaker box
-Is it ok to mount the speaker box directly against the sub box? Or will it cause the audio to be poor and distorted?
-What size speakers should I run? (I listen to everything from country, to rock, and I am a HUGE dubstep fan)
-What speakers would you suggest? I am not looking to do audio competitions, so I don't need anything overly expensive. Quality for a a fair price. If I could get all the speakers for $200-$250 +/- a little, that would be great.
-Should I run 2 dual channel amps, or would a single 4-channel be suitable?

Any and all help is appreciated. I have the skills to build the box, I just need to know that it will work before I dive into it. I attached a very basic sketch of the design I was considering. Obviously the dimensions aren't correct, it is simply for design purposes.

Well audio can be up to personal preference, but in my opinion you don't need the rear speakers. A good set of front speakers powered by an amp will easily keep up with one 1,000 watt 10 or 12.

Porting is up to you. If you port the sub properly you will be louder near the frequency the box is tuned at. However performance will drop off quickly below the tuned frequency of the port, and can actually cause damage if the sub unloads. If you listen to mostly heavy bass music a ported 12 will be amazing, but if it's 50/50 Dubstep and Rock I would stick to a sealed 10. Sealed 10's just sound so much tighter than ported 12's. Drums will sound more natural versus sounding like a "thud" on a ported 12. Just keep in mind it does come down to personal taste too.

Thanks. I have my 12 in a ported box right now. I had it in my old car (scion tc) and I had polk dxi6500s in the doors powered by a 400 watt alpine amp. And I think with the car being a hatchback, just like my mini, the sub frequencies were much louder since it didnt have the trunk to absorb some of the "wobble". The speakers sounded good but werent quite loud enough to overcome the bass. That is why I was looking to add a couple extras to the car.

Like I said it all comes down to preference, I have seen fiberglass boxes similar to your design so it should work. I just don't really like how it sounds with speakers behind me. I am surprised that those polks on a 400w amp aren't enough though. I have 3 10's in my truck with 2 JL 525CSi front door speakers powered at 100w RMS and they go loud enough to be painful...

Yea, I mean they sounded great. But if I would listen to a song with heavy bass lines and the volume up, it would really drown them out. So I am looking to equal that out
