Don't Need No Stink'in Chrome
2 Attachment(s)
Just swapped out most of the CHROME trim on my MCS. I had Mark, AKA Orangecrush, prep and paint the parts. I had ordered all my replacement parts (second set) from Hendrick's Mini in North Carolina. Easy to call them, order the parts and have them deliver to Mark's shop. I can't say enough about the quality of Mark's work... I am sure you all have seen the rebuild of Ocsar! After he completed them, he shipped them to me and within 15 min, they were on! A SIMPLE, and easy mod.
I sent him the bumper tow cover so that he could nail the color match tinting, Perfect! This is the list of Part Numbers my 2012 used: Headlight Rings- 51137149905/06 Taillight Rings- 51132752243/44 Outer Gas Cap- 51177148885 (16117222391) Door Handles (no comfort access)- 51217198471/72 Grill Surround, upper- 51132751040 Grill Surround, lower- 51117209904 JCW grill surround is a different P/N,, I think... I attached a couple images, there are more in my profile Albums. I have not installed the door handles yet- waiting for the SoundStage stereo upgrade when I tear the doors apart... |
That looks so awesome :)

That looks great! Might have to check it out if you guys are going to be at the holiday party.

Very nice! I love the body color trim. Unfortunately, I'm not near Mark and I didn't trust anyone to match the somewhat unusual Spice Orange color so I went with vinyl wrapping on mine (and the JCW grill surrounds).
|
Very cool. It works very well with your car. I didn't do any black out yet on my chrome because I think what you did is more of what I am leaning towards. I think it makes the body look much cleaner IMO.:thumbsup:
Can you pm me and let me know the cost, if you don't mind. Thanks |
Chaz, that is why you send the tow cover so he can nail the proper tinting. I was near to him either,,, Denver vs. N.Carolina.
|
Must have missed that about the tow cover. I had my trim wrapped in the same vinyl as the stripes and I think the black looks really good on the Spice Orange, especially with the blacked out xenons.

Total Cost?

Nice. Great work. I've debated getting rid of the chrome bits myself but I'm afraid to lose contrast. Post full pics of your car when everything is done. I'm sure its changed the entire look of the car.

wow that does look really nice... i just dont know if i have the balls to use paint... i dont know if i want to do body color or white... im starting to like body color mor and more
|
Wow!! That looks great! I'm going to have a stack of parts waiting to be installed before my freaking car gets here.
|
That's the only way to do since you have so much time on your hands.... Waiting! My living room was full, gauges, exhaust, shifter, struts, and the list continues...

  TWO THUMBS UP! Thanks for the PM's and link.
That looks absolutely wonderful on your IB MCS. I've got an IB/B with 17" JCW R113 replica wheels that are black with the machined edge to acsent the few chrome trim peices thoughout, but am seriously considering doing my headlight and taillight rings for that (I'll call it) "Porsche look". My MCa has the chrome grill slats that I like, so I'll have to give the grill surround some thought... Don't know what you've done interior wise, but I'm considering doing my stock silver dash panels in IB and all the gauge and vent rings in Gloss Black like the 2012 steering wheel ring. That silver in there just seems out of place to me. I haven't committed to that either, as I have some nice looking carbon fiber vinyl wrap I picked up to experiment with making a pair of stick-on Rock Guards (again Porsche-esque-ish  ). May just buy a Porsche pair and cut them down because they are made of material that closer resembles the black plastic wheel archs and rockers. Be sure to post up when you get it all installed. I for one will be watching this sweet IB MCS mod come together  |
Looks great. I was thinking of doing the same to mine. Can you pm me and let me know the cost, if you don't mind. Thanks
|
If you go the route I did, buying all new trim and having them painted by Mark, you can expect to pay around $600, but that did include the door handles which are both pricey in cost and paint prep. IMO, well worth the cost over vinyl wrap.

The work that has been done is amazing. Def an amazing job on that i just have a question are your door handles the same as my 2011 mcs? If so did you have to remove your door panel to install the handles? Just because if you did im wondering if you DIY or had someone install the handles? Thanksss
|
I think the handles are the same. I do not have the comfort access, and have not installed the painted handles yet. You will have to tear off the door panel, just not sure how far. When I replace the speakers I will find out!
|
ahh okay a lot much more mechanically and electrically inclined then I am lol ... Id tear my door off install them and have no way of putting my door back lol ...
